need.metal.fabricator.recommendation

Post by dd »

hi.
i am close to custom fitting a pelican case to my r1200r.
i would like to put in some metal plates to sandwich reinforce the plastic bottom of the case.
i need 8 thin (2-5mm) metal/aluminum squares, each about 5cm square with 5 holes predrilled.
does anyone know who i could contract this out to?

thanks.
-daniel.
it seemed like a good idea at the time

Dan,
You might get better responce if you say where you live. It's not a Harley list, we (speak for myself) won't come and steal your bike.

Since I'm on the west coast I was going to look to the metalworkers that make stainless parts for the marine hardware industry. If you're near a coast that might work for you. Maybe check with Brian Gordy at LumaLink, they might have ideas (they're in Arkansas).

That's a very easy fabrication job. All you need is a job shop with a shear and a drill press. There are probably dozens of them between Princeton and Philadelphia. Look in the Yellow Pages or on Google.

Alternatively, assuming you have an electric drill but not a bandsaw, you could buy 2-inch wide 1/8-inch thick aluminum strip from onlinemetals.com. They'll cut the pieces to length for, I believe, 50¢ a cut. Then drill your own holes.
