Engine Manual

Does anyone know a place where I can get a manual for the engine since I am swapping it with a new one? I will be swapping out my busted engine for a new one, but would like the reassurance that I can still proceed with a little guidance. Anyone know any websites? Or perhaps some previous posts? I have an idea of what I'm doing, but by no means an expert. Please help me! thanks!!!!

It's a 2002 R1150R, oilhead or flat head is what the mechanic told me.

There isn't an engine manual, per se, available, however, if you are swaping engines there is little to worry about as all you do is drop the old one and install the new one. Lots of pics and notes as to what wire goes where.

You indicate the negine is new????? or new to the bike???? If used, have you had a leakdown test done, or at a minimum a compression test??? Is there a warranty??

Was there a hole in the old engine???? Is it appart????? What are you going to do with it???

The factory service manual should be available on CD from your BMW dealer. If you're not close to a dealer, check the big online sellers, like Bob's BMW or A&S BMW. The factory manual is very detailed, but not much on step-by-step instructions or pictures. For that, I've got a Clymer manual that I like a lot. It's available at Amazon.

Is the new-used engine the same year and model? Or is it from another model - RT or GS, for example?

It is a used engine with 33k miles on it in good condition for the R1150R or GS engine. I will have to have my friend inspect it since he is a motorcycle guru. I will take as many pictures as possible as this is my first time, so I'll know where everything goes back together! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction everyone!

Get yourself a BIG box of quart size Freezer weight zip lock bags... and a Sharpie
Label the sets of screws, bolts, washers, etc. (what part they came from, what purpose) as you take them off. It is scary how many leetle tiny bits there are to keep track of, once you start pulling things apart. If you don't know what goes where, you could end up parting out that bike...

Having watched guitardad disassemble his bike 3 times now (transmission removal for rebuild/ loaner install, loaner tranny removal/rebuilt tranny install, and the oil hemorrage fix) I know that's the simplest way to make sure you don't end up with any "leftover bits" once you go to put your bike back together.
