Coating for Catalytic Convertor / Collector?

As a newbie to the world of BMW bikes who has benefited much from lurking on this forum since I got my bike, I humbly submit my question to the collective.

I apologize if it is obviously newbie... I am just beginning my mechanical apprenticeship.

I purchased my R1150R a couple weeks back, and aside from the system cases and windscreen, it was pretty stock. I have been putting on as many miles as possible to get a sense of things that I want to modify performance / appearance-wise. Aside from the obvious... *cough* sargent seat *cough*... one of the mods I have been seriously considering is getting a ceramic coating for the headers (mostly for aesthetic purposes). I am looking to black them out and am planning on blacking out the muffler as well.

My question is whether I can get the catalytic converter / collector box blacked out as well? Basically, what are the considerations / implications of that particular piece getting a ceramic coating?

I'd call Jet Hot to see what they have to say. I had the headers done, but not the catalyst. They do have a black in ceramic as well.

I did my headers a couple months ago thru Jet Hot, and IIRC they asked if I was bringing in the cat too, so I think they can do it.

I did my headers in the 'Extreme Silver' (the higher-heat stuff than regular silver). It's not terribly shiny, but much nicer than the brown/grey that they were uncoated. I'd probably try the regular silver next time to see the difference.

You'll note there's a couple small defects, which Jet-Hot reworked at no cost to me (other than some time, of course). The cost was roughly $200 for the two headers and 3 clamps. The pipes look a little duller now, but that could be due to them not being washed yet this year.

EDIT: Note that the first picture was with the camera flash on, the second and thrid were without.

I Jet-Hot coated most of my cars and bikes headers and have had, with the exception of one ocassion, good results. In that ocassion they reworked the pipes at no cost.

I have found that the best color is the silver, it does dull a bit with use but it will not darken or chip. Since it is also a thermal barrier the metal cools rather quickly. I have also tried the black and has given me good service.

If you want to see what it looks like go to user rides top of the page, page 4 at the bottom.....you can click on the pics to get a larger view....those pipes had aproximately 6K miles on them. Had them coated in 07 and paid $125 for the pipes, cat eliminator and clamps at the Jet-Hot facility in Mississippi.
