R1200R for less than MSRP?

Just curious, will BMW dealers deal on a bike? Or do they try and do the "Harley" MSRP thing?

Has anybody gotten their bike for less than list? If so, how much less?

I found out my nearest BMW dealer is having a demo day this coming Saturday, but I am already tied up. Triumph demos too.

You guys have me really lusting after this bike now!

My opinion. I think that if the dealer has one sitting on the floor you have a good chance of cutting a deal. The R1200R isn't a new model and for some unknown reason it doesn't seem to get a lot of press. Trick is you don't want to come in looking for a R1200R, ask if they have a R1200RT and then when you see the R say 'Hey - what's this'

Also if you have CASH they will most likely treat you like royalty and give you the best deal they can. I was talking to a local Honda dealer and he told me that people are coming in to buy bikes and he can't get a loan approved.

I'd agree with Harry. As with cars - financing is a real problem, and dealers are eating floor costs big time.. so if any bike has been on the floor for more than a month, they are getting to where it's costing them money sitting there, and they'd like to see it gone. Good time to dicker.. Walk in with your financing ready (cash, credit-union loan, whatever..) so they don't have to worry about it, and you're golden.

I bought mine from Twin City BMW in Chambana Ill for about $500.00 or so less than sticker in late '07. When looking I was cruising the web all over the midwest since at the time Indianapolis did not have a BMW dealer. I talked to a dealer in Cleveland, I think, who did not have one in stock but said that he would cut me a killer deal on one if he ordered it for me, knowing it was sold when the order was placed. His thought was that if he didn't have to floor plan it at all he could take his profit on delivery day and not have the cash float headaches.

I imagine as long as the bike is not in short supply that ordering as you did should result in some sort of discount. How long did the bike take to arrive?

I bought a demo model 2008 R1200R with 150 miles on it back in March 2009 and paid cash. I was able to talk them down a couple grand from where they started which ended up less than the MSRP for the "Premium Package" out the door. Last year's model and cash should equal an opportunity to deal. I consider this collaborative negotiation and enjoyed the process. They've been paying on the bike for a year, they need to move product, and they love cash. I needed a new motorcycle. Everybody can have a great day.

I ordered mine, took about three months, I had missed the last order by 5 days, so two months should to do it. I live in western Canada, so subtract a week to get it across the country. After loading it up with all the goodies, I saved about 5% off of list. I think most of the savings came from the goodies.

Zinger, I didn't order mine, that was just the info that the Cleveland dealer gave me. I think I got a good deal on mine because Twin City had just recieved my bike. In fact it was still in the box when I completed the deal, so they probably had very little in their floor plan costs.

BMW doesn't provide the demo bikes, but there is some incentive given to the dealer to put bikes into demo service..

Most BMW dealers - if you look serious about buying a bike - and ride up one one - will take a bike right off the floor to let you demo it.

When I went to BMW Corporate dealer in NYC I told them the options I wanted , the color and they spit out the MSRP out of the printer. I said I wanted to pay cash...ahhh..they said...Same Price..We'd actually prefer you finance it they said...I said ok..what about my trade in which was then a 99 R1100R in then very good to excellent condition (just had 3k of work done to it at their service center so it literally needed nothing)...hmm..that's an older bike they said..We can give you 1800 bucks..But the KBB value was 3800 I said...not much of a response.

So I put the bike on ebay...sold it for $4500, called around and found Max BMW a short two hour, $45 Amtrak train ride away in Albany NY (They are also in NH too) and on the phone they quoted me about $1450 below MSRP. I used some marriott points to stay at nearby hotel and picked up the bike on Saturday. The folks at Max could not have been nicer or more professional..I got to give the bike's first couple of hundred miles in the rural roads of upstate NY rather than pothole strewn Manhattan and even got a chance to watch Eli Manning practice at the NY Giants summer camp which was directly across from my hotel.

So yes you can bargain with the right dealer and right information and have nice weekend all in one.

When did you make your purchase? Also, what was the MSRP of the bike you got? It sounds like you got roughly 10% or so off, which I think is a great deal given that the typical margin on a bike is around 20%.

this was in August of 2007. The bike was in stock and they are a fairly big BMW dealer with two locations.
