Pricing

Post by Doug »

Rob's got me thinking, so I went and rode a F800st the other day.. They want $12,195. its got $10600 base cost, $495 dest, $900 ABS, $295 OBC, $250 heated grips.

They dont seem to be taking anything off really. Is this normal in this economy? I've heard of BMW cars with BIG discounts.

What is this bike worth? Its a demo with 300 miles.

Any discounts on the other bikes, like the K1300s? I rode that too. omg what a machine.. overpriced perhaps.. But what about those K1200's they have leftover from 08!? They have a demo with 6000 miles for $10K.

I bought a demo with 300 miles on it, the dealer took $1,000 off the price of my R1150R. Perhaps you need to shop around.

Yeah, being a demo, they should knock SOMETHING off. Otherwise, I don't think they're moving too much on the prices.

There were some incentives....$600 in accessories and I think $500 if you are a BMWMOA member. I don't remember the expiration dates on those. Since this is the end of the model year time, I would not pay MSRP.

I would not buy any demo. They get ridden too hard, on cold engines, for too many short trips.

Exactly the reason we bought a dealer loaner bike!... and we are willing to deal with the consequences.

Speaking of deals, our 3500 mile dealer-owned F800S loaner was equipped with all the stuff (grips, computer, ABS, tire pressure monitor) but the cases, with asking price of $7500. After R1150R trade-in, the difference was cheap.

I have a clarification and an addition.
I would not buy any demo (or used bike). That's just me and one of the many advantages of being a DINK*. It in no way is a disapproval or condemnation of anyone that considers demoed or used vehicles. With today's advanced metallurgy, proven designs and precise manufacturing processes, any significant harm testbike or loanbike riders can inflict on a new bike most likely no longer occurs. I keep a bike at least 8 years, all the while building the bank account for the future trade in. When trade in time finally comes, I make the withdrawal for a new one and pay dearly for that "new bike" experience and the satisfaction of being the one-and-only. From there I'm even further "out there" by documenting and doing ALL of the bike's servicing. It will only go inside their building again for a warranty repair, just like the last one (that never did go back). So, I guess you could say I'm the weird one.
