In with the new/Out with the old ...

Three weeks late, but finally some pics of my new & old R's. I've had the '99 Dolphin Blue R1100R for 10 years & passed the enjoyment of her to a guy in northern NJ via eBay. The new '09 was born as a grey one, but my dealer brought in a Biarritz Blue 2010 so they could swap out the tank, fender, & anything else with color on it so that my '09 could have the sexiest color while I could take advantage of the free panniers offer.

The old one was a good bike for me, but what a difference in the performance of my new '09. Here's a few pics of the boxer siblings before the shipping company came to transport the '99 to her new owner.

Thanks guys. I took several more, but both bikes take a back seat to the true master of the house. I just haven't figured out a good way to bring her along for the ride that doesn't involve bolting on a sidecar and buying doggie goggles.

I had that EXACT bike including the color (1100R). I still miss it. I actually like the dash and headlight better on the old one in terms of looks. Also the handgrips. But of course progress is progress.

Agreed on the clocks as well as the grips. Not sure why they went with black plastic backing for clocks and mirrors (although its easier to keep clean). The new grips feel significantly thinner than the old, as well. Two areas the old one has it on the new one ... but overall the new one feels (and is) so much lighter. (Must be the weight they saved with thinner grips).

They are both beautiful blue roadsters. I missed out on the earlier model due to college tuition, etc. (When I came home with a deal, my wife said "Don't even think about getting a new bike. You have a perfectly good bike and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.")

In comparing the two, I was wondering if you plan on installing the rubber baby bumpers on the new cylinder heads as you have on the old ones.

No. They were installed on my '99 when I purchased her. I never dropped her and she was a bit more portly than my current mount, so I'm not seeing the need. Now that I've jinxed myself ...

The only farkle I'm eyeing at this point is an aftermarket exhaust to deepen the music a little. That one's going to wait until after Christmas, though.

This certainly seems a farkle-friendly forum.

In fact, I was introduced to the term here. My previous ride was fairly farkle-free, but I've already spent more bike-related cash on new helmet(s), riding boots, gloves, etc. Who knew helmets had a lifespan, even if their life was an uneventful one (i.e. never tested for the purpose it was designed or otherwise dropped)? Well, once I learned that & realized my old ones were 10 years old ... that started the peripheral spending. I'm doing my best to stimulate the economy by spending my money before Obama does.
