I just discovered one of my fuel line quick disconnects was leaking, but not before gas dripped down on the transmission housing and stained it piss yellow. Has anyone had any luck removing this stuff.. I've tried a couple things with no success. My 2004 went from looking almost new to looking like crap.
Needless to say, I plan to upgrade to the metal disconnects. Any suggestions on best price/service to purchase. I'm guessing A&S but haven't got that far. Thanks, Brad.

Beemerboneyard (http://www.beemerboneyard.com) offers good quality chrome plated brass QD sets -including o-rings & EFI rated fuel clamps. Even the online order I placed around Christmas arrived in good time.
Can't help you with the fuel stain problem but hope someone can. I'd like to know too.

Re: Fuel stains
It's hopeless ... paint or part replacement is the only way ....
Let us know if you have a solution .... many stained parts await

Re: Fuel stains
I recall a few years ago when we were all first experiencing this gas discoloration, someone found a way to clean it and posted it back then, but I don't remember what it was. I believe it was some common household cleaner that worked, but you'd have to do a thorough search of the archives and then it still may not show up. I keep thinking it was something like Windex....or another very common item.
Sorry I can't help more.

Re: Fuel stains
No chance. Plenty of riders here in Germany have come across the same problem and no solution yet except a new paintjob ...

Re: Fuel stains/bleack/MEK
Bleach?, could try soaking a paper towel with it and then sticking it to the discolored areas and letting it sit for 1 hr.
MEK will remove automobile paint slowly (i.e., in minutes as you rub the paint). If the discoloration is just on the outer surface of the paint, try rubbing it with a paper towel soaked in MEK (available at ACE hardware, USE nitrile/neoprene gloves), you "will" slowly remove the paint and the color with it. It just depends how deep the discoloration goes into the paint.

A good search of the archives should turn up this post.
Good luck, and let us know if you try this and it works.
Yeah, I remember someone used a Mother's Power Ball Polishing tool available at Pep Boys and mounted it in hand-held drill-motor to apply some Bar Keeper's Friend or Bon Ami (I forget which) to buff the stain out. He probably had to remove a thin layer of the clear coat to remove the stain.I recall a few years ago when we were all first experiencing this gas discoloration, someone found a way to clean it and posted it back then, but I don't remember what it was. Re: Fuel stains
It is the clear coat where stains occur with fuel and particularly when engine is warm. No way to bleach. Only way is to use some abrasive appliance and/or get a new paintjob. Its a typical BMW problem. I wonder why BMW has never addressed this ...

Stain is a badge of courage for BMW R1150** owners. Shows that we've endured a decade of BMW Motorrad's "we don't give a crap about product quality"... which is hopefully changing radically with the new bikes and new marketing approach.I just discovered one of my fuel line quick disconnects was leaking, but not before gas dripped down on the transmission housing and stained it piss yellow.
