R1200Cl What is your opinion?

Post by mkmd555 »

Hi:
Having flirted with Roadstar and Moto Guzzi I want to get back to the BMW bikes.

I am interested in a R1200Cl on Ebay : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 500wt_1182

I want you opinion

Thanks and best regards

When I had a significant other I wanted one, primarily so she could ride in comfort. And as I get a tad older I appreciate the comfort as well. Never ridden one but looked very closely at an 03 a few years ago. I think it's a beautiful bike and I still wouldn't mind having one. I'd go for it.

Rode an R1200C once - a few years ago - the yellow one with the small fairing bodywork. (nubuck? newark? something like that...)

quite frankly?

NEVER again. I physically can't take the cruiser riding position - my back goes into spasm after about 10 minutes and I can't trust the feel from the front end.

When I can't ride my Rockster any more I'm going to chill out on a Brit cafe racer. ;)

Can't see if this has a 'feet forward' riding position......couldn't ride it if it did.
Kinda nice looking but a bit too 'silver' if you know what I mean!
Not my thing, really. There are many other cruiser type bikes that do it better.
Unless you must have a cruiser then I'd think about a similarly priced
RT.
A strangely grotesque looking bike......

I agree with Ol Jeffers. If there are forward controls then it is out for me and my back. If you must have this type of bike, save your money and get the real thing with a nice Harley, like a used Deuce or Wide Glide or Heritage Softail. They are relaible and they are the real thing.

Other than that and the fact that i always thought this was the worst looking BMW after the R26(?), if you like it, go for it.

I use to own a R1200 Montauk, hard on the back because your feet are in front of you with a 90 degree bend at the knees, therefore almost all your weight is on your bottom(tailbone), so when you hit a bump, it transfers right up your spine with no legs to help absorb the impact. Some people don't mind this, I find it really uncomfortable. An RT or 1150R/1200R is way more comfortable.
Good luck in your decision.

I had an R1200C for a few years. It was my first bike and I did like it "but" the cruiser riding position wasn't for me. The web address below is a good place to go for advice about the R1200C and CL bikes.

HIDEOUS.

But strangely attractive in an 'ugly' sort of way.......

I'd try one but I wouldn't pay that much for it.
