Got LOW Comfort seat..

That is the one seat I might consider trading my leather Rick Meyer seat for.

Yes, I called and placed an order for a low non-heated seat and then shipped my standard sized seat to them to get re-made. Actually, I think I originally ordered a standard and then changed my mind a couple days later and changed it to a low. The guys at Sargent were friendly though and came through with flying colors.

I had Sargent make one for my K75S - looked wonderful, was awful to ride on though. Good for about 20 minutes tops and I was in agony. Went back to them twice - after that they suggested I sell it on Ebay. I did, and hopefully the poor soul who bought it has an iron butt. The R12R seat Sargent made was an improvement over the stock low seat (which I believe is the most comfortable of the stock "un-comfort" seats..) - but it's not a Russell.

I had doubts even ordering the low seat conversion for the R12R - but since they did offer a return policy on it - I went for it and didn't regret it.

Goes to show'ya - not everyone hits a home run every time..

I too just received my low comfort seat and found I'm now sitting so far towards the rear, compared with the stock seat, that I now need bar backs. In addition, the low comfort seat changes the seat to foot relationship just enough that my knees are now cramped and I need to lower the pegs. Are you having the same experience? I like the seat much better than the original, but don't need to spend an unanticipated $500 on ergonomics because of it!

Yes, I find myself sitting a fair bit further back with the comfort seat. In fact when I switched to the original seat yesterday (for a solo ride) it was very noticeable how it sloped forward and pulled me with it, applying a degree of pressure to parts that are better not being under pressure I don't feel that I need bar-backs, but it's certainly noticeable. If I was redesigning the comfort seat I'd move the 'rise' forward a bit to keep me slightly closer to the bars and give more pillion space. A larger rider would almost certainly be happy with it as it was. So on balance, of the two I prefer the comfort seat but I've just picked up another standard seat for £35 so I'll probably use that as a basis for a custom seat that has the best features of original and comfort.

As for the seat to peg relationship I hadn't noticed any difference in that respect. Did you come from the standard height standard seat or the high one?

I spent some time today riding - with the comfort seat. Nothing extensive - just seat time. So far - good. No pain. The seating position to me is about the same as the Sargent low seat conversion, I haven't sat in my spare stock low seat, so I can't do an A:B:C comparison. I did notice the Comfort seat seems to allow less room to move my hips around - but this quickly became a non issue for me. Knee bend appears about the same as the Sargent and stock low seat. Both bend my knees a bit more then I'd like (my knees tend to cramp up after 5-6 hours of riding - and I end up with my heels on the cylinder heads for a stretch..)

So far - good. I noticed the seat was noisier (creaking/rubber on metal noises) then the Sargent (which is made on the exact same pan) - so when I got home I used a bit of silicone grease on the rubber bumpers. Haven't seen if this improves the noise yet - but might get out again tomorrow so I can report back.

For me, I have not noticed any change in riding position with my new low comfort seat from the original low seat. Just a much nicer place to sit.

Paul, make sure all the rubber bumpers are in place.

There are 4 toward the front, two shorter ones closest to the front, two longer ones a bit more toward the middle. If any of these are missing it will flex and might cause noise. When I got mine - one was missing, luckily I had a spare left over from another BMW seat for a different bike..

Problem solved.
I had already checked the rubber bumpers and they were all in place.
Three turns of electrical tape on the prongs where the seat engages in the front and it's absolutely quite.
There is some play there, the holes under the seat can't be exactly precise and they allowed for some moving around.
The seat is still a bit wider on the right, were the last front rubber bumpers supposed to rest on the tank, there is about an eighth of an inch of space but i can live with that.

My comfort seat sat a fair amount to the right when I first fitted it and it wasn't keen to engage on the prongs - I really struggled to get it to engage the first time. When I looked carefully I found that the prongs weren't central (equal distance from the centre line) so I 'adjusted' the left hand one to the left slightly using a rubber mallet, making no change to the right hand prong. This not only allowed the comfort seat to fit more easily but it also centralised it, making it look better against the tank. There was no detrimental effect on the standard seat fitting so this supports your theory about the holes in the pan allowing for some variation.

Just a reminder in case anyone is not aware - the rear rubber pads (mounted on the R1200R's frame) are height adjustable by turning. I found that these needed adjustment to get the right preload of the rear hook release. I actually make it tight enough so that some light downward pressure on the pillion is required to turn the key to release the seat, otherwise its possible to rock the seat a bit back there.

As per my recent low comfort seat posts I found the need to lower the pegs to get the knees close to right. I actually found the arm/wrist pressure eliminated by this seat and worse with the high version.
