While hanging around my local dealer this morning bothering the staff (Pacific Yamaha BMW Husqvarna - good people), I was pressuring the sales manager for info about the future availability of the R12R. According to him, another R12R owner he knows happens to be the sister of a BMW factory employee, so he asked her to find out the straight poop from the source. So you can (allegedly) breath easier knowing that BMW has no plans to kill the roadster, and that in fact next year's model will have the camhead motor.
Of course, take it with a grain of salt, but I trust this guy even though he is in sales...

Oh yah, I almost forgot... all the seats will be uber comfortable...
Peter, That IS a good one. Just over the top enough to be believable.
I've heard that the windshield will be perfect for everyone no matter HOW tall or short you are.

What is happening to my skin?
Where is that protection that I needed?
Air can hurt you too
I've heard that there is a button you can push that adds 12" of suspension travel, and drops 200 lbs of weight so that the bike can be used for observed trials competition.

Peter,
I think I said that about a month or so ago. I heard it from an impeccable source.. (his job title starts with BMW-Motorrad...) so I was never in doubt of it.

Local dealer hosted the national demo truck. According to BMW rep, no DOHC motor for the R. We will soon see for sure.
Be interesting to find out. It makes no sense for BMW to keep a production line going for one models' engine when the engines should be interchangeable between models. My source agreed with that assessment (he's been quite reliable in the past and is in a position where he should know..)
