License Plate Light

Post by DaveF »

There was beautiful riding western in western New York this weekend. I did a lot of riding on paved and unpaved roads. When I cam home I found a nylon license plate nut missing and the license plate light dangling. The fancy ($10.00) light had a failed filament. I ground off the pin on a standard base 4.3w bulb (180 degree pin orientation) to keep it going until I get to the dealer to get the bulb with pins not at 180 degrees to each other.

The license plate light is held in with nylon clips with tensioning screws. This does not appear to hold the light in securely.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks DaveF by the way this is my first post.

While I've never had my light fall off, I have had it finally burn out at around 30k. I'd suggest, once you get the parts to fix the bracket, that you order an LED replacement for your bulb. The are much brighter and more durable than a standard incandescent bulb. And if you bounced the back end around enough for the whole assembly to fall off, you might do better with the more resilient bulb.

I don't see a need to replace that bulb.

I was bouncing around on some rutted dirt roads. Years ago I had a Laverda SF 750 1974 I think. I'd go out for rides and find the rear turn signals were gone upon my return. I felt my past had returned when I saw the tail light dangling.

I replaced the nylon clips and bulb today with parts in stock from Country Rode in Fairport NY., but I also ordered the Led from E-bay

I am curious as to where you buy your LED bulbs from?

Well John, I live in Rochester and one of my favorite rides is Rt. 21 south along Canandagua Lake to Naples, and then the return along the high road on county rt 12 and back up 64. That was Saturday's ride.

On Sunday I rode south through Geneseo, and on to Mount Morris by Letchworth State Park. Most of the main road head north and south in that area as the hills are glacial moraines. I road east from there on dirt roads that went up and down over the hills.

Hey Beemeridian,

Thanks for finding that US source for the LED BA9S and posting link.

Bought one of these as upgrade for my Rockster, another part of winter rebuild project.
