Oh my. VERY tasty. And jeeze - I think mine is almost worn out at 44k miles right? The red one is HOT. Noticed they all seem to have a minimalist rear rack (nice! and better looking then ours..) and thank Dog they kept the logical turnsignal setup. I like it - it doesn't make our bikes look OLD..

Having just recently traded in my 2007 R1200R for a 2011 R1200RT I can tell you I love the new "camhead" motor, you can feel a difference. I love both the Red and Black/White classic and if I was made of money like Don I would own 2 bikes!
By the way the new 2011 Rt is fantastic, take one for a spin if you get the chance.

Love that red model. Thanks for posting this.

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.
A lot of small changes, with every change for the better. Congratulations to BMW.
Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.
The new instrument cluster is what they should have done in the first place. It is symmetrical and fits more with the bike. If it can be retrofitted to my 2009 model, I'm in.
I also like the larger front fork tubes.
However, I don't care too much for the "pitchfork" style of the rear rack. I guess that means a new topcase, designed specifically for this model.
The colors are great, especially the matte gray and the red!

About bloody time they released the pics of the new model
.
WOW i like it alot, love the classic range, that white stripe is real nice. But the spoked rims would be a pain the ass to keep clean (yes, i like to keep my bike clean)
Have to say iam a fan of the instrument panel. Does the oil cooler look bigger? & why the plastic divide in the middle?
Love the blacked out engine, polished fork legs, but yeah not a great change in apperance but nicely done.
But iam not going to buy one tho, only bought my R12R this time last year, i'll see what they come up with in 5yrs time when iam ready to buy a new bike again.
Well done BMW, nice work

Very minor changes - the engine would be the main thing. Think I prefer the new dials.
Notice the oil fill is on the right pot now. What's that about?

The white stripe down the tank and fender is (IMHO) a rather cheesy attempt at café racer styling. Expected on a Jap retro racer but a little out of place on this bike. It seems they have abandoned those horrendous pinstripes, so I assume they felt obligated to do something with the tank. Next we'll see the black and white checkered stripe that is so overdone lately.
It would be interesting to see a factory two tone paint job.

The matte metallic smoky grey speaks to me, but not loudly enough to trade in my '07. I do think I will replace my mirrors with those nice black oval numbers, though. The instrument cluster is reminiscent of the R1150R, and makes me wonder if BMW isn't moving away from its infatuation with asymmetrical styling.

Man! I new this was going to happen as I was signing the papers for my brand new 1200 R a couple of months ago. However, that's the way it goes..... I love my bike so much I almost don't even care. I do like the setup of the new gauges a lot. But again, I have no problem with my current setup either.
You know when my wife gets word of the new 2011, I'm gonna get the big "I told you so...." (Also... don't care about that either. LOL).
All around a great looking bike! I'm looking forward to hearing peoples ride reports.

Re: The new BMW R 1200 R. The new BMW R 1200 R Classic.
I was actually surprised they hadn't done this on the first R12R.. the classic BMW "kidney" grille design. Check any early K bike.. I had given thought to painting my oil cooler shield to give the same effect.. Mebbe I will now..dav wrote:Does the oil cooler look bigger? & why the plastic divide in the middle?
Agree, if it wasn't so much work to black out my engine, I'd be all over that. My cylinders are darkening up, it's a PITA to keep the bottom of the engine clean looking. Black is GOOD. Silver - not so good. Wonder if they blacked out the paralever assembly? (Have to look at more pics.. most are of the left side for some reason..)Love the blacked out engine, polished fork legs, but yeah not a great change in apperance but nicely done.

I absolutely love every aspect of this new model except for the Ducati Monster-like huge white stripe down the tank and front fender. But that's such a small complaint and issue with such an awesome update! I would love to know when they'll be in the showrooms.

Methinks more evolution than revolution. Nice refinements (shorter exhaust, new seat contour, new instrument cluster, small grab rails), but don't see anything that obsoletes the current R1200R.
New motor - ho hum (1 extra hp).
The "classic" does not appeal to me. No matter how much I try, just can't picture the R1200R as a "retro" bike.
Nice to see a traditional German racing silver (whatever you call it) is back. No white? Perhaps next year the classic will be white with a black stripe. Now that would be revolutionary!
I'm keeping the one I've got -2009 Alpine White.
