Repainting Advice & Color Codes

Post by dmk »

I'm doing some repairs on my bike and noticed a few items that I'd like to repair and repaint, but have been unsuccessful in finding the appropriate color codes for my dashboard support and lugggage frame for my 04 1150r. The dashboard support pictured below was scratched when I removed it (why is a long story). As you can see from the picture, its a small chip in the paint, but its real noticeable and I was hoping just to touch it up, but can't find the code. So my question is whether anyone can point me in the right direction for the code and if not, does anyone have any suggestions on what paint to use to respray the whole thing? It seems like this part will take a lot of abuse with the key hole being so close, so I'm concerned with using a paint that will not scratch.

Secondly, any ideas on the paint code for the luggage frame? I'm not sure I care about the exact color on this, but suggestions on something close would be great!

Thanks in advance!

BMW paints are unobtainable. Ask your dealer.

1. If it was me, I'd apply some type of black tough plastic around the lock cutout. A protective "doughnut" of sorts. Might not look too bad, functional, cheap. Simple way to cover up that paint ding.

2. Take the parts to your local powder coating shop, ask about a color match. Include prep work in quote. Same for the rear rack piece.

3. If nothing but perfect will do, then spring for the replacement.

01 62117669757 DASHBOARD SUPPORT - FERRO 1.15 1 $357.02
Looks like you've got the silver version.

As mentioned, if it was me, option #1.

Somebody said Honda's HA623M paint matches the luggage rack.
BTW, Dupli-Color DSGM 340 (Metallic Silver) is a good match for engine paint (but not for hot areas).

These do not need powder coat! Properly applied paint will serve the same purpose as the overrated and high$ powder coats.Paint them with a silver base coat/clear coat silver in one of many available-go to a professional paint shop. Make sure to use a paint prep that will make your paint stick to the instrument panel frame such as "Bulldog". Most indeoendent body shops will ahve a suitable silver left over-go to a small shop and ask them for prep ionfo that you can do and to shoot it for you and clear coat that same day when they are doing a clear coat anyway.
