Another new R1200R owner - CT, USA
Good Evening All,
A little introduction. I picked up my gently used R1200R (Black, 2009mi) from Cliff’s BMW last week. We’re getting along just fine and banged out a quick 500 miles of commuting as the season here tightens up. She’s the best commuter I have ever owned and the sound of that angry sewing machine doling out the power is pleasant to say the least.
She’s my first BMW and I am told by those who already enjoy them that I made a great choice. My wife lovingly calls her the ‘mistress’. Wish me luck.

Good luck with it from another CT R1200R rider. Not your father's BMW, huh?

Welcome and congratulations on the new bike!
The R1200R is probably less expensive than a mistress in the long run and the bike won't ask you when you are going to divorce your wife.

Last I checked, this is the only "mistress" my wife will tolerate. +3 here and welcome!!
Also, join the board as a paying member and come see us down in the playhouse. Cheaper than counseling sessions.

Re: Another new R1200R owner - CT, USA
Thanks Guys! I think I figured out how to post a pic of the Mistress and I. Let me try this...
She's pretty sultry in black "Does this luggage make my ass look fat...?"
"Well, YES. But with you being all naked, where else am I gonna put my junk...!"
Hey Goo, I'm an off the rack kinda guy when it comes to the seat. 170, 5'10", 32in inseam. It actually came with the low seat and I can get both feet flat on the ground, no knee cramps, and a couple hours without much squirming or discomfort. Ask me again after a couple thousand more miles for a verdict on the low seat.

Re: Another new R1200R owner - CT, USA
Thanks Robert,
The windshield is a VStream and it also came with the R. I’m rather thankful that it did as there are several ways to go in this area and am happy with it thus far. My 18 year commute is mostly back roads and twisties with the option of state routes and a bit of open highway.
I’ll reference my previous ’80 GL1100 GW, with full Vetter package at almost 650lbs. The GW offered great coverage for both driver and passenger – the wife – and conversations were easy without an intercom.
At this stage of my riding life, I was happy to shed 200+ pounds of steel and add 20HP at the same time.
It’s pretty much given that the R1200R “naked bike” is coverage challenged – but that’s what we signed up for right..? I find that the Boxer oil-heads have something to offer the feet, and the humpback tank allows for a little tucking of the legs and mid torso coverage behind. The VStream takes the pressure off the upper torso, and for sprints on the highway a modest tuck gets you inside the bubble. I’m a conservative mid-life rider and as fast as the R is capable of, I would find an extended run on open highway a bit of a workout.
Normal riding has me sighting well over the top of the VSteam – something the full coverage, head high, touring screen on the GL did not offer – sort of a love and hate relationship there. Don’t forget, the old GL was also before all this funky adjustable windshield stuff came out.
I’ll sum it up that the VStream I have is just big enough to offer some practical deflection, designed well to suit the cut of the R1200R and very well mounted.

Your wife was right, she is a beautiful mistress.
Hope the N.E. weather will let you get in some quality seat time before the snow falls.
