A new Remus Y pipe has just winged its stainless way from the UK. I aim to eventually put on a titanium revolution as well but initially it is just the Y pipe.
1 - Is there anything I should be aware of in the Y pipe installation process.
2 - When both the Y-pipe and Remus Titanium can are in place will a Techlusion EFI controller make an appreciable difference. (I am presuming that changing the back pressure will have some changes to the process that the standard EFI unit may not cope with.)
Now for the opinions.
Has anyone done this and if so what are your feelings about...
1 - The engine note. I have heard old air heads tricked up similarly to this and they sound great but all of the oilheads that I have heard,( Youtube only,) don't sound quite so Ducati'esque.
2 - Changes to the power distribution. ( I am not desirous of losing honking great chunks of torque.)

Re: Remus Y Pipe
If you're using the Y-pipe and the Stock exhaust "can" be wary of using the panniers.
The exhaust heat will now be trapped in the can, (the can's restrictive flow "captures" the heat and lets it build up). This doesn't happen with a freely-flowing can, the exhaust gases pass through and the heat escapes before it can build up too much; or when the catalyser is fitted as happens on an OE bike: in that case, the heat is trapped and builds up in both the cat, AND the can - so it's "spread-out" more.
The heat DOES get hot enough to for the gases themselves to melt the OE panniers. I still have a hole in my left pannier body due to this.
If you're not using panniers you'll probably be ok - but it's something to be aware of.

Soliton
FWIW :
I installed a Staintune collector box and new SS pipe a few years back ( easy to access here in Aus)
- more torque (front end goes light on acceleration)
- easier to access the top end - bike happily goes to higher revs, hits rev limiter etc
- more power than other 1150rs on a track day convinced me
- much less heat around the bike (no cat)
- easier to fit wheel (exhaust diameter less)
- note is ok, perhaps a bit too loud around town, not ducati-like, nor guzzi like, less bernina than before
- no real difference in fuel consumption, less if anything
- significant amount of popping on the overrun, when the injectors come on and off, a bit crude for this bike?
I did also fit a replacement chip - locally made designed for the staintune, according to my mechanic doesn't have much effect. He also reset the tps for me at the time.
Anyway you probably need to hear from someone who uses same fuel as you regarding the chip - all fuels seem to be different.
So good luck with the y pipe and remus, i'm hoping it will be similar result
Agree you should be concerned about the heat from the OE pipe, however i find my pipe a bit too loud, and as such it would be nice to try a setup with the OE pipe and just removing the cat, even if not so free flowing.
One thought is get some high temp exhaust sealant designed not to harm oxygen sensors before you start

Re: Remus Y Pipe
I originally had the Staintune box (mid pipe) and OEM can with the techlusion 1031.
Although I had a heat shield on the case, it melted a hole in the side case on a trip from California to the east coast, so I installed the Staintune low swept can which includes an off-set bracket for a full size left case.
The complete Staintune box/can coupled with the open-loop techlusion 1031 (no O2 sensor) works excellent. It's very quiet (almost like oem) and runs like an animal once the techlusion is dialed in. I also use regular gas!
I get about 43-50 mpg on the highway depending on the speed (65-85 mph)
It's all a bit pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.
