It is raining fairly constantly in Sydney so tomorrow could be a good time to play around with the ESA, ASC and any other acronym that decides to join in.

Has anyone getting a 2011 bike NOT ordered a red one?

BTW I will be selling 2 x Ohlins, full Staintune system and Ilmberger hugger (unless it fits on the new bike) for low prices (I am moving house and don't need to lug more stuff around)

So you've finally picked the beast up hey mvk? Its a pity this weekend in sydney the weather is crap. What intial thoughts do you have on the bike? Or is the excitement still too much? I didnt order a red one, but a grey one. Not due until april which sucks for me.

Why did I get a new bike Robert? The flippant answer would be -because I can! Partly true but believe it or not this is my company vehicle- I use it for work, riding between offices every day (how lucky am I!) and I have had a good few recent years. There is never any guarantee this will continue, so I felt I would upgrade while I can afford it.

I have still done only 200km but first impressions can be summarised by paraphrasing that old adage 'lies, damned lies and performance figures'. On paper the specs. suggest that there should not be a huge improvement over my old bike but something very pleasant and unexpected is going on, namely performance is way better than I anticipated. The low down torque is a delight. And very sensitive instant throttle response.

Maybe some of this is in my mind- new bike, new tyres, lovely exhaust note, smooth gear shifts might all enhance the experience. On the other hand my old bike had a fine sounding full Staintune system and was fully run in. In the past I have found the first 1000 km a PITA and tedious - not this time, not on this bike!

Excellent reasoning... perfect thinking...ya did good.
I have nothing to compare my 08' R1200R to because it is my first bike. But I'm sold. I could have bought something else but fortunately for me I went with the R. Light, responsive, powerful, rock-solid, and functional ... a motor design made since 1923 or 24. Numerous after market goodies... any other bike fades in comparison.
