Did it reset after you turned the ignition off and back on to re-boot the system?

nope i rode for a few hours today and made a few stops, and on every re-start it stayed at zero, it dont bother me much i usually look at miles traveled and not how many left, but i will be making a trip to a dealer, and use that warranty lol

Re: Fuel strip victim
I just picked up my 2008 R1200R from the dealer on Friday where they replaced my fuel strip. Mine did the same as yours did, no bars, and yellow fuel indicator light on. When I took the bike in I told the service manager the bike was in for the fuel strip replacement. The service technician asked if this was for a recall and the service manager said that this was as close to a recall as BMW gets and smiled. Well now the bike has a new fuel strip and the fuel gauge is working again. See how long this one lasts. Hopefully a long time. If this was not under warranty it would have cost almost $300.00 to fix.

Does anyone know if BMW "fixed" the fuel strip on the 2011 model or is the problem still likely to happen?

Re: Fuel strip victim
It took my dealer about a week to get the part and then a week to get me in for the fix> I just set my trip odometer after each fillup and got gas at 150 miles. Kind of anoying seeing the fuel low light but the bike still ran fine.

Re: Fuel strip victim
i actually called every dealer in 50-60 mile radius and they are all booked, lol
kind of weird to me, coming from Kawasaki i was always able to get an appointment within days not weeks
luckily this is not an important issue and the bike is perfectly fine just wondering if this was an important issue if any of them would be willing to work with you and squeeze you in.

Anyone know of a by-pass for the strip? Add a resistor?
Would like to have the out of gas light shut off while waiting for repair (or just leaving it this way and using the trip odometer) Don't need it yet....looks like it's gonna happen though.

Geeeeee BMW, whatever happen to quality/design control mine goes to the dealer next Tuesday for the same thing...............so how many trips to the dealer by now? battery, brake lines, the ring something on the key/ignition and whatever else I'm forgetting................it's better to forget about it, I guess.
I miss my Ducati, in four years of ownership it only had one recall.

P.S. good thing I'm not brand loyal.

Re: Fuel strip victim
Frickin' fuel strip. Mine was replaced on warranty in November, and seemed to work fine....lulling me into a sense of confidence and allowing me to forget mileage between fill-ups until....

....I was stranded in the middle of a ten-lane highway, only three miles from home. Damn, still showed a 1/4 tank. Thank goodness for AAA.
Newb lesson to pay closer attention in the future....

Re: Fuel strip victim
had mine finally replaced this weekend, lets see how long it lasts, it does have 2 year warranty, but like i said before i always look at miles traveled not miles left, it was just annoying to see empty tank when i know its full

According to my dealer, the 2011 does not use the strip.Catchina wrote:Does anyone know if BMW "fixed" the fuel strip on the 2011 model or is the problem still likely to happen?

Re: Fuel strip victim
According to the parts fiche...the 2011 fuel strip is the same part number as the 07-10 bikes. Something's fishy with the dealer's response...CupOHemlock wrote:According to my dealer, the 2011 does not use the strip.

Re: Fuel strip victim
I would rather the dealer was right and there is no strip
...so far so good, the last fill up was with 32 miles left on the OBC display and that seemed about right.

I was thinking that so many of us had a problem with the fuel strip that there should be a name for us. But for some reason, "strippers" just doesn't seem right.

Re: Fuel strip victim
I'd rather not have fuel gauge, than one that you can't trust? Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to see kick starters make a come back as well......
When in doubt, chicken out...
Re: Fuel strip victim
Boy, that would keep us going! Already stuffing close to $20 in the tank already, so why not!?rockbottom wrote:I was thinking that so many of us had a problem with the fuel strip that there should be a name for us. But for some reason, "strippers" just doesn't seem right.
