Lost Keys for BMW Sidecase
I moved house and lost the key for the side case.
They weren't coded to the ignition key.
Any idea what my options are to fix?

4 options:
a) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=168ARzwBkYI
b) see your dealer
c) drill the lock and get yourself a new one
d) see your locksmith

Re: Lost Keys for BMW Sidecase
This is one of my biggest fears. I only have one key to my side bags. You've convinced me that I'm gonna get another one or two made.
Re: Lost Keys for BMW Sidecase
Then why don't you just adjust the locks of the cases so that your main key fits all the locks (ignition and the rest)? This is a very easy task!
My dealer did that for me in a matter of minutes and instructions how to do this are easily available on the www.

I can't find a decent page (with all the photos) describing re-keying to the panniers. This is the best I found and its on an internet archive: http://replay.web.archive.org/200412041 ... _bmw_locks
I'm definitely going to try and re-key the bags this weekend. Thanks for the idea Oliver.

Go see your dealer first and get yourself a set for adjusting the lock. BMW Part nbr is 51 25 2 337 270

I'm thinking any tinkering with the tumblers supposes either that you have the lock out, or you can unlatch the handles to get to the release pin. Maybe the drill-out and new lock purchase might be the way to go. The locks aren't that expensive.omg1010 wrote:Go see your dealer first and get yourself a set for adjusting the lock. I got everything re-keyed to the ignition now! I'm don't have any extra money right now so no going to the BMW dealer (2 1/2 hr drive + parts for me). I was able to re-key everything and only loose two tumblers out of the side bags. I'm not worried whatsoever of getting the locks picked. It will be so nice only carrying one key, and one spare can now be taped somewhere on the bike for emergencies.
Re: Lost Keys for BMW Sidecase
Glad you got it done. Taping a key to the bike somewhere is certainly not a good idea. When being on tour I always have a spare key in my wallet with the coins.
