Motorcycle Travel Network and Iowa

Post by Boxer »

Well, I think I managed to hijack LostViking's travel thread so I'm moving this discussion to here. Moderators, feel free to move the last couple of posts to here also since they really are off the subject of his trip discussion. Sorry LostViking.

The Motorcycle Travel Network is handy for me. I usually travel alone, and I also live alone with plenty of space to host riders. That may not be the case with you. Most of the MTN people I have met are either single, like myself, or a couple who both enjoy the motorcycling lifestyle either both riding or going two-up.
Its not for everybody. If you have a wife and family, understandably you have to consider a wide variety of issues that I don't.

When planning my ride that I had to abandon, I had MTN reservations set up all along my route north and across the Dakotas to Oregon and south to L.A. I had to contact all those people and cancel except the couple in Iowa. I will take a shorter trip later in June and stay with them for 3 nights as I tour the area museums and art galleries from Anamosa to Eldon. Grant Wood, the American artist from the 30s and 40s, is an Iowa icon. I went there a few years ago but didn't see near everything I wanted to see. Plus... I love corn, and rolling farm lands, and overalls.

Great slideshow. Have been through parts of Iowa, but this was an excellent review. Thanks for sharing.

The Iowa tourism board tries to keep a low profile, we really don't like toursits. All locals are required to sign a pledge, to help keep tourists away.

But, I'll risk it and give you a little peek of what your missing, jb44 (sorry that I was shirtless this morning).

Wow! Mountains and oceans in Iowa... the tourism board is doing a great job of keeping that low profile. I'll need to figure out how to carry along my surfboard for my summer vacation in Iowa.
