Feels like it's about to cut out

About a year ago I removed the cable ties after reaching the point that when I turned left the bike cut out.
I dianosed a broken wire that was linked to the fuel pump. This has been repaired and fuel pump and bike running fine.
Occasionally though and this happens on deceleration I feel a blip, a jump as if the bike is about to cut out.
It's difficult to describe, sometimes it feels like it has cut out but it hasn't.
I've probably not described it very well.....perhaps it feels like it is missing but it's intermittent and never on acceleration.

Any ideas?

Could it be just backfiring? Do you hear it popping when that happens? This is not uncommon with mine on decel.
