I know one of the biggest problems or characteristics of the R1200R is wind deflection, or lack there of. I had the touring screen with a 1 inch riser on the front mount for the last 21000 miles on my 09 (I would have more milage but I spent the last year and half in Iraq). This made highway speeds bearable. Since I just got back from Iraq, I had some money burning a hole in my wallet so I bought the Wunderlich Trophy. I gotta say, I am in love all over again with my R12R. I am a short dude at 5'6" with a low Sargent seat and the Trophy provides really smooth air flow for my height. I am also really impressed with the mounting hardware, of course it better be good for how much is costs. I know this has been discussed before, I just wanted to share my experience.

I solved the issue for low $$ with a Ceebailey sport screen.





Mounted right on the existing frame and cost under $100.

No chest buffeting, just took a major ride from S.F. to the Oregon border and then out to the coast and back, 1154 miles. Very nice.

The Ceebailey looks like a nice screen and I probably would have gone with one of those if I were not a fan of the cafe racer look. My first motorcycle at age 16 (39 now) was a Kawasaki GPZ305 and then a Honda Interceptor 500 (not pictures of my actual bikes, just ones I found online for reference)
If BMW were still making the R1200S, I might have gotten one of those...

Looks nice. I love the way those look, especially now that they have one painted to match my Classic, but JFC they're expensive. How is it at 70-80 MPH?

I've recently ordered a CB Sport screen and will be getting it next week. I'm really trying to avoid putting some big ugly barn door on the front, but my hearing is already in bad shape. Decades of loud guitars and motorbikes - both with no earplugs for the bulk of that time - have made me pretty worried/careful and saving what hearing I have left and hopefully preventing tinnitus. The current combo of my height (5'10")/stock sport screen/supposedly "quiet" Shoei Qwest is ridiculously loud at freeway speeds, even with 30 DB plugs in. It contributes to exhaustion on those 12 hour days in the saddle, but I'm more concerned about the contribution to the already long march towards tinnitus and deafness.

These, to me, are the best plug available, and I have tried every make and model of foam and silicone plugs and have even had custom fitted plugs made by an audiologist (they also paled in comparison, waste of money, after two refittings). Please. Try them.

Indeed. I'm always looking for better plugs, but "world's finest ear plugs?" Who are these guys and how many dBs do there plugs block?

That white bike looks really great with the fairing. I didn't know I liked the white so much. I am a fan of the cafe racer look but wasn't willing to pony up the $$$. I just did over 1100 miles in Colorado with the latest gen Cee Bailey and was very happy with the performance.

Do you think the fairing would look good with the clear part painted black? I vote yes.

I'm not a fan of windscreens on naked bikes but that Trophy looks darn good. In my opinion, not wanting to offend anyone cuz we all know we are all different, CB's and all other windscreens any higher than the high BMW screen looks weird and out of place on the R. Again no offense intended , but if you want good wind protection why buy a naked bike?

Personally I use the lack of wind protection to keep me from excessive speeding, if I had a bike without turbulence and little wind pressure I would not have a license and I'd probably be in jail.

They do a version to match the Classic. Or plain black, and add your pinstripes. Classic version is $839, others are a bit less.

I have one of as as well. It's great for the price and I prefer a minimal windshield for heat control. I found mine a bit noisy until I used spacers to tilt it back slightly. It didn't affect buffeting any but it made it quieter.

Hey Ashveratu, can you give us a measurement for the top of the windscreen to the upper triple clamp (or something common to both pre and post 2011 R1200R's)? I'd love to know how tall it is.

I just took her out on the highway for the first time today and I was very impressed. I have never gone much faster than 85 mph purely because of wind and buffeting. Today though....I zipped right up to about 110 before I realized it and started to back off the throttle. The fairing has made a huge difference. I am now tempted to head up to the International Rally....
