Buying paint...bought,now applied

Post by ron prior »

Well my paint kit arrived, followed the mixing page, and sprayed my bikini fairing this morning. It turned out pretty nice, just a two little dirt spots.

BuT! although not dry, it looks like they got the color wrong. I had a 'funny' feeling while ordering :doubt: .....there was a miss communication over paint code / scheme / & color name

I think the 'match' is to the oil cooler covers?....which might look OK when mounted and done. There are so many variables when it comes to paint, that there is no point in arguing about it. The shine is fine, I'll mount it tomorrow, and see how it looks? If not exactly pleased?....I'll attempt a correction this winter, and take that opportunity to sand the dirt out. The pint kit left plenty over, painting just the small piece.

Ah, the joys of spray finishing. Hope all turns out to your satisfaction.

Update....if'in yer interested?

Got the fairing mounted this morning. Turns out the match is allot closer than I thought. Maybe perfect!...think maybe the lighting made it look off match? {I} missed the shine just a-bit, my bad, must have sprayed a-tad drier than needed, but I am very pleased. Most of the dirt spot is on the bottom. So this winter, I might sand that out and spray a gloss coat?

That little bikini fairing, directs the air somewhat, but still allows plenty of cooling, no helmet lift. Noise is not bad at all around town, and on the road I wear plugs. I've had it on for a few months, unpainted.

And now painted, I think it balances the 'color' front-to-back.

Photobucket makes it really easy. Suggest you set up a free account if you don't already have one.

Ok, How do I post the link to SmugMug ...[here] ?? You can go there and see them, but the site doesn't give any hint on how to post a link somewhere else?

Method one
1. Copy the URL from the browser window.
2. Select the text
3. Click the URLcontrol above
http://bucks-shots.smugmug.com/Motorcyc ... &k=SbXLRHs

Method Two
1. Copy the URL from the browser window
2. Type some representative text - e.g. BUCK'S Shots
3. Higlight that and click the URL control
4. Change the first URL tag from {URL} to {URL=} and then paste your URL directly after the = sign (I had to type curly brackets there to fool the software into not interpreting it as a URL here IYSWIM)
You should get;
BUCK'S SHOTS
