Windshield mounting screws / Model 99 99 0 000 458

Post by quattro222 »

I don't know how to describe this other than to say the following: there are 4 screws that are adjusted with an allen wrench. They fit into a rubber piece that goes through the hole in the windshield and into the mounting bracket. The bottom screws fell out and I need to locate and purchase the screws and rubber pieces. Does anyone know where I can find these items?

They are apparently called well nuts.Like you I'd never heard of them. A search here in the UK revealed many sources from bike stores. They are used to ft bodywork to UJM and windshields.

The pricing is from MaxBMW so YMMV.

Many threads on this topic and I followed the advice of those recommending Home Depot. I replaced the OEM well nuts with the 10-32 x 1.051. I got 5 for less than $5.00. Initially, thought it was mistake because I had to use a power screw driver to tighten them sufficiently. Once tightened down and test driven I found them to be far superior, easier to obtain and much cheaper than the extortion from the dealer 89 miles away.

Yes, I found that longer wellnuts from Home Depot hold much better than the OEM wellnuts. I replaced all four to make make the shield more secure after losing two.
