Booster plug and 24K service

Getting ready to take my bike in for 24K mile service and am wondering about my booster plug. If I don't mention it, will the technicians "detune" my bike based on results from fitting the computer to it? Does anybody know if the readings on the computer are affected by the plug? If I mention it, will I void my warranty? (I don't want to remove it.)

There is no way to "detune" the engine with standard BMW diagnostics software. As far as voiding your warranty? The most that could be voided would be the engine warranty - but I doubt if the dealer would even mention it to BMW if there was an issue. If you're really worried - it comes down to taking it off for the service, then reinstalling it once the service is done.

I agree with Don that there is no real 'tuning' of the bike by the dealer. They adjust valves and throttle bodies at a tune up, but there is no changing of fuel maps or timing etc. However, i would disagree about the warranty thing.

If you should happen to hole a piston down the road, and show up with a fuel mixture altering device on the bike? Well I'd call that a warranty problem right there. While the booster plug, or any fuel map alteration, is intended to do good things, if they go too lean there could be a damage resulting. And BMW would be justified in denying warranty for that.

Is a 2010 bike with 24K still under warranty? I am not under warranty, and I would not take it off.

Isn't the warranty period three years, 36K?

The Booster plug enriches the mixture so presumably one would not have to worry about it being too lean. I agree though if there were any warranty issues the presence of the Booster Plug might be their "out". I don't know how hard it is to remove but if your stealer oops I mean dealer is anal about that sort of thing, it may be best if is removed before taking it in. On the other hand I think a number of forum members have left it on during service and had no issues with their dealer.

I'm glad my R1200R runs great as is, no voodoo magic Booster or other plugs necessary.

Mine went through the 12K sync of TB's and clearing of codes with a booster plug no prob.. I was amazed after the T.B sync how she preformed awesome throttle response and rool on. Me LIkey :badgrin:
Speed cures all handling problems.
