Iron Butt 50CC

I'm planning to attempt an Iron Butt 50CC (Coast to Coast in under 50 hours) on my way to the BMW MOA Rally in July. I plan to ride my 2002 BMW R1150R. I'm interested in whether anyone has attempted this and have a recommendation for a route? The most popular route seems to be from Jacksonville, FL to San Diego, CA.

I live in the Boston area so I don't necessarily want to ride this route since I want to end in Portland, Oregon. Any insight or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I've decided I'm going to ride the Jacksonville, FL to San Diego, CA route. But I'm adding another element to this ride....the Four Corners Tour. I'll ride up to Madawaska, Maine to begin the Journey. Then ride to Key West, Florida for the second corner. I'll then ride bike to Jacksonville, FL to begin the 50CC (Coast to Coast in less than 50 hours) and ride to San Ysidiro/San Diego, Ca for the 3rd corner (I've scheduled a major service at San Diego BMW at the conclusion of the 50CC) and then up to Blaine, Washington for the conclusion of the Four Corners prior to the BMW MOA Rally. I look forward to relaxing at the Rally before riding back to New England on a northern route. Extimated mileage is just over 13,000 miles.

Good luck to you, please keep posting here on your preparations. I've often thought about a 50CC but after completing a couple of 1000+ days, not sure I've got the right stuff.

Thank you for your response. I'm mapping out my plan which is a daunting task. I met with my local BMW dealer to schedule the necessary maintenance. I'm replacing my stock shocks with 50,000 miles, adding auxiliary lighting and a Sargent seat. I joined the Southern California Motorcycle Association which sponsors the Four Corners Tour. Now I'm just putting all the required documentation together and mapping out my course. I will be doing several 1000+ days in May and June as preparation.

I'm a marathon running coach (www.themarathonsolution.com) so I'm in great physical condition for 55. But I'm going to incorporate more yoga into my routine for improved flexibity and core strengthening. I am eating a more plant based diet so I feel that's fine. The mental aspect is an area of focus also. I'll be carrying a SPOT satellite locator and creating a website so others can track my progress.

Thank you for the suggestion. I've never tried that but I think I've definitely experienced the reason why rider's use it. Thankfully, I just replaced my stock seat after 50,000 miles.
