Gimbel fairing
Has anyone experience with the Gimbel fairing for the R1150R?

Re: Gimbel fairing
The Gimbel fairing looks nice but the Gimbel products are notorious for their very bad fitting. Many reports about that flaw here in Germany. If you're ready for a good amount of drilling, cutting and alike then go for it ... From the design aspect there is nothing comparable.

Re: Gimbel fairing
Are you looking at the headlight fairing or the belly pan? I've got a Gimbel bellypan on my 1150R, it did fit, but I had to tweak the mounting hardware a bit to get it exactly to my liking. Either way shipping here to the US will take a while, it took nearly 3 months to get my bellypan from when I placed the order to when it cleared customs and arrived at my door. I had my part painted at their shop in Germany and the paint match is fantastic, it looks 100% factory done. YMMV.

Re: Gimbel fairing
I've found the story about the non-fitting fairing (in German) and read it.
I just recieved their leaflet for the R1150R, it looks great.
Some people at the suzuki-bandit forum said that it was a bandit-fairing-copy.
I'm interested in the fairing only, I don't want a smaller ground clearance as I'm living in the land of speedbumps.
Getting the fairing here shouldn't be a problem, they're "only" 700km away from here.
I don't have shed/workshop and I would have to do it in the cramped space of the storidgeroom below the appartment.
As for the fitting problems, I'm thinking about having them to do it.
I could ride the bike to them, than take public transport to get home.
Or I could put the bike on a trailer and bring it.
So I'm going to ask them how much it would cost.

That would a new experience. Let them mount their stuff. Maybe then they'll understand what correct fitting means ....

Got an answer, they are too busy with the new models to do the "umbau".

Re: Gimbel fairing
I now have the fairing, still it needs to be painted and attached to the R1150R.

I had two problems getting the fairing here.
First it was send to my home address instead of sending it to my work.
This meant I wasn't there when DHL came to deliver it.
Second was the maze of Track and Trace.
A German DHL T&T number doesn't work on the Dutch DHL site.
In The Netherlands the package was handed over to SelectVracht to deliver it.
The T&T number only works on the SelectVracht site when "3SD" is put in front of it, but that's kept a secret, even the guys of DHL didn't knew that.
SelectVracht thought the package was too big for them and handed it back to DHL-express.
DHL-express tried to deliver it, and left a note with a number.
That number doesn't work on the SelectVracht site (at that time I didn't know it was handed back) to change the destination to a DHL service point.
On the second try to deliver the package DHL left a message where I could go to get it.
Getting it was a minor challenge, just ignoring the GPS until the last streets as there is a new highway that's not on Garmin's maps (yet).

Do they {Gimbel} have an English site, so I can understand what i read?....

Thank You !! Believe it or not?..I found a dealer in the US...Wild Hair Accessories...they appear to carry the entire line. Their pics are horrible, but I emailed and ask for better ones. No mention [on the site] of color match but $1350.00 for the R1150R model in black..
Re: Gimbel fairing
I've uploaded the folder and pricelist to imageshack.
You'll need to stitch the inside left and right to get the whole inside picture.
Some translations from the pricelist:
Halbschale mit DE-Integralschenwerfer = Fairing with headlight (thats what I ordered, it includes the inner fairing and the standard screen)
Aufpreis = extra costs
Spoilerscheibe = Spoiler screen
Tourenscheibe = Tour screen
Varioscheibe mit Aufsatzspoiler = Vario screen with add on spoiler
Tonungszuschlag fur plexiglas scheiben = extra cost for colored screens
Bugspoiler = fairing for the front of the engine
Vorderradkotfluegel = front wheel mudguard "only for R850 and R1150R" but their website says "only for R850R and R1100R"
Lackierpreise = Painting

Re: Gimbel fairing
The Gimbel fairing:
------- in earlier post (this morning) ---------------
Just got my bike back.
Now it has the Gimbel fairing.
Some comments from the dealer who fitted it and from the painter.
The fairing is probably made when they have an order as both dthe dealer and the painter had problems with gas coming out of the material. Filler and primer refused to stick at some places. Also when using sandpaper some pieces come off, leaving another place to use the filler on.
So when you order the fairing, be sure to leave it for a while to cure.
Further comment was on the fitting of the parts to the frame. Most of the parts 'almost' fit. So a lot of work there.
Pictures will follow.
----- new ( this evening) -----------------------------
I found out another problem.
I noticed my low beam didn't worked.
As stated in the brouchure, you could replace the bulb without taking the fairing apart.
BUT....They've soldered the bulb onto the wires, than filled it with some plastic!!
Luckily I found out now and not somewhere on a dark road.
Probably they thought there was too little space for the normal connectors to fit.
On the other hand they might couldn't get the appropriate connectors.
I went to a bike shop that does suzuki (it's a 2020 bandit's headlight), but they had to order the bulb, so I have to wait 'till tuesday to get a new bulb.
Meanwhile I was looking for a solution.
I still have a loom from the foglight I used on my R100CS.
The foglights were designed for a R1200GS, The bulbs are different but maybe the connector is the same, just waiting for tuesday.

As requested some pics showing both the fairing and the touratech paniers.
Passenger footrest: shortened (both sides) at the rear to make way for the Touratech panier.

Space between the exhaust and the panier.

Right without top box (looks better but I had to put my helmet somewhere)

Re: Gimbel fairing
I have to correct something:
The bulb wasn't soldered to the wires.
They used these connectors:

Than they filled it up with plastic.
I had to destroy the bulb to get the plastic out and discover what they did.
In the mean while I've got connectors that will fit the bulbs.
So now I can correct the problem.

Re: Gimbel fairing
Your bike looks great and the panniers as well, but those crappy 2 cent connectors are unforgivable and then try to hide it under the very expensive fairing they charged you for was not very nice either , you should send them a bill for the repair at a comparable hourly rate.
But either way enjoy your ride as it looks like you are ready to tour. Ride safe

Re: Gimbel fairing
Thanks Mike.
Here is a picture of what came out.

The guys who did the job putting the fairing on, said "next time have them do it theirselves".
In fact I tried that but they told me "they were too busy with the newer models".
It seems to be a financial crises where everyone is happy to have some extra work, but they have no time.....????!!!!!
I've replaced the rubbish-connectors with real ones.
I've got them this afternoon at EUR6.50 a piece at a garage that converts cars to HID and got a HB3 bulb for free. They probably got the bulb from a converted car but it works.
The bulbs with the connectors fit under the fairing like they should.
Made me think, was it just a case of getting a bigger profit or couldn't they get them?
