Testing ABS on a 2006 R850R

On the last ride, I had to grab the brakes a bit hard and the rear tire slid. On my previous R1200RT the ABS would engage before this happened. The ABS light works properly, goes out at around 3 mph but now I'm concerned the ABS may not be working properly.

Tires are nearly new Micheleins.

What's the best way to check this out. I'm leery of just slamming on the brakes the way I used to test it on an older R1100RT.
