Inspect fuel pump recall myself?

Post by bhmav8r »

My local BMW dealership just closed and the closest one is about three hours away.

Anybody have the procedure for the fuel pump & flange inspection? Pics?

Probably cost less to do it myself than ride six hours and possibly have to wait for the parts.

Arghhhhhh!!!!

There are several threads on advrider.com that show pics of cracked pump flanges.

As to getting there, a Haynes would be helpful. You've got to remove the bodywork, the plastic u-shaped shroud at the front of the tank, disconnect electrical connections at the left rear of the tank, remove the tank's mounting bolt (left side, back), lift the tank up in back, disconnect the fuel lines, then the tank can be lifted off. This is easier if the tank is not full of fuel. Don't ask how I know this.
