System Luggage

Post by todehnal »

I sure would like to have a pair of bags for my R1150R. I have the mounts, and tail piece, so all I need is luggage. I probably wouldn't leave them all of the time, but occasionally I need to carry some things. Even running to the store for bread and milk, or a 12 pack is a problem. OEM luggage is out of my price range. I happened on some after market bags that look exactly like the OEM. They are sold through Alibaba dot com, and look authentic, and are claimed to be exact after market cases, for an unbelievable $100. Has anyone tried these, and what is your satisfaction level for the product,

Thanks...........Tom

I absolutely love my system cases. I have had friends crack jokes because I leave them on, which you'll find out you will too.... saying "you look like your'e always going on vacation"

LOL

my reply: I sent them photos of a bag of charcoal and pool chemicals in one side, and the other side with a bag of chips, 12 pack of beer, hot dogs and buns. :) also my rain gear.

I will never remove them.

You should try to find a used set!

Have you got a link for this alibaba case? ive never heard of an aftermarket oem replacement.

I like to give that impression as well although I only tour once a year! A good place to keep my waterproofs- rain is never to far away in UK. They also give me a sense of security when filtering and the top box takes my helmet and gloves when parked up.
Amazing how much shopping can be carried as well.

Id like to be positive, as I am a huge tightwad ...But i have a few 'concerns' with this ad... :? first, the price is 100-500. $100 looks like a bulk deal. if you buy ONE youll pay 500. And if you look, it says "minimum order" is 50 sets..... and I wasnt able to click less than 10. (alibaba is a supplier type site for cheap goods)

also, the first picture. look at the spot where the bmw roundel is.... its been poorly photoshopped. curious. they could be illegaly licensed? they look REALLY oem to me.

hey...send them a message, see what you get! cant hurt. Ive never heard of anyone doing this. For a hundred smackers, it MIGHT be worth the gamble. if its 500... just get used ones.

They look like standard BMW OE.

I daresay Alibaba have found the OE manufacturer (ie not BMW themselves, but the ABS products manufacturer in China) and done a deal.

BMW probably won't care too much, the product is well out of warranty and 2 product series 'out of date'.

oh - and note the minimum order quantity...... ;)

Thanks guys. I missed the minimum order statement. I think that I will continue to search to a good pair of used ones. I was looking for the RT bags rather the the R, as the left bag would be more usable, and I don't mind lowering the exhaust on my R to make it work, but I would accept either. The problem is that I have been on the prowl for a long time now, and have come up dry. From what I can tell, if you could find a set, they are probably over $200 a piece................Tom

They're a desirable item - you may have to just 'suck it up' and pay what the market says they're worth.

I take it you're scouring ebay?

It looks like there are some new city bags available. I could not find an interior picture of the bags, but the description on one of the sites also called them police bags, and stated that there had dividers inside. My guess is that it was to keep their reports, and traffic violation forms separated. Does anyone have these, and could offer an open bag pic, or a better description? I just hate buying a pig in a poke! Thanks..............Tom

you can buy them one by one and get a deal Ive seen LOL. Oddly I saw a bunch of left side cases the other day.

people probably find them on the road, and resell em. jerks

Thought this was going to happen to me once. left case fell off, made it 10 miles. but it was still on the roadside.

I still have my original R1150R paniers, complete with rack.
It's lying in my spare room for a while as I have Touratec Sega Pro's on the bike now.
If anyone is interested, EUR 200.-- for the paniers plus the rack, they need to be picked up, I'm not going to send it.

A good friend of mine has had very good luck with Alibaba posing as a "retailer" and asking to buy a "sample" of the product. They negotiate with him.

I got super lucky about 2 weeks ago and picked up a pair STUPID cheap from a guy in Dallas. He got them from an estate sale and did not have the key, so he sold em to me.

Now, I only needed them for the "touring" lid on the right side. Previous owner was careless and lost one case that had a city lid, and one case that had a touring lid. Therefore for 8 months I had been riding around with a Touring lid on the left and a city lid on the right.

End of story is that I now have a spare set. They are mis matched, touring on the left and city on the right.

Want em? PM me. I would be happy to sell them.

I believe you can find the Chinese "knock-offs" from a couple of vendors (the bags are already here in the States) on eBay for about two hundred dollars each. Also, IBMWR.org has a marketplace where the OEM bags show up fairly frequently at various prices.

I need just one of the red locking tabs. Mine came from the previous owner broken.
