2004 1150r Valve Adjustment Stud Snapped off

Post by dmk »

I'm hoping someone can send me in the right direction. I have a 2004 1150r and when I was changing my oil, I found a cracked off threaded stud and a nut in my oil pan
Image

I thought it looked familiar so I opened up the head cover and found that the threaded stud on the lower intake valve was sheared off and missing a nut and the top valve adjustment nut was also missing.

I've got two questions:
1) any thoughts on how I fix the stud issue? Anyone with experience in removing this
2) Couldn't find the extra nut... its probably in the oil pan... should I worry about it?

Thanks in advance.

Wow! Where do we start? Your description of the broken parts seems to be inaccurate. The biggest problem is that no images were loaded and all we see are the words "image".

The images are on his harddrive and not somewhere in the cloud, like photobucket or whatever.

the valve stud snapped and is in your OIL PAN! and you only found this changing your oil, not broke down?

go buy a lottery ticket, id say you are lucky/unlucky.

also, no noise?

I think theres a youtube vid of complete valve train disassembly. Search out Chris Harris, and look in his vids.

Just a note - you can't drag Dropbox files into the forum - try hosting them on photo-sharing site like Flickr or Photobucket instead.

IIRC most of the parts in the valve train are relatively easy to replace. Will know more once we see the photos.
