Servo Questions! Ah, help!!!

Post by cgguy09 »

Hey team,
Long time no talk! To catch everyone up, I was loving my Rockster...I put 23k miles on it in about 2 years took it to canada, mexico, Grand Canyon, smokey mountains...everywhere. Then a Deer decided I had it too good and ran into me. In short, the bike is totaled. :(

I found another Rockster near by...I want another rockster. Everything looks good, minus the Servo Brakes.

The current owner hasn't ridden the bike in about two weeks. He started up today and the ABS does its initial self check and turned up no problems. All the lights went off. However, when he hits the rear brake when riding. The brake failure light comes on as does the ABS warning light. Also, When he hits the rear brake the servo fails to engage. The brake light functions properly, turns on, turns off and is not on all the time

He says this is never happened before. He says he put a new battery in it about six months ago and it's a weird offbrand he believes it's a gel battery. He currently has it on a trickle charger. (I'm hoping it's the battery)

Any thoughts on what the problem could be? So I'm not sure if it would be the switch. Wholesale servo failure. Lack of brake fluid.

Keep in mind, that I have my wrecked rockster but I can steal parts from. But, if I know what the problem is I should be able to pull off the parts I need properly.

A little more info on the pike: he thinks it'sa gel battery (he knows it's not an acid battery at least) it had steel brake lines, has not had brake work or servo work done in the last two to three years.

I was going to pick it up tomorrow. However, it's 6 hours away... So I'm trying to decide what to do! Thanks in advance

With any luck it's the battery. The iABS system is very particular about battery voltage. If a fully charged battery does not heal the issue then possibly a servo issue. Also the iABS system seems to not be very forgiving when it comes to a lack of annual system bleed. And as you probably know it's very expensive pump to replace. Very good for you that you have a ready source of parts!

could be the servo likely not bad, just needs maintenance, could just be air or dirt in the line.

cant really know til you open it all up and flush it. or just remove the entire ABS system like me. :)

I would negotiate a lower price and buy it, not even think twice. make sure the seller knows how much the servo costs...

Same thing happened to mine this year. Instead of replacing the $2600 part I pulled it and went to normal brakes. Kinda like them. If I had the part no cost, I'd probably try a replacement but as Peels said negotiate all your labor into the price-it'll take some time plus a full system flush. If you remove, Towererworker, Peels, Sweatmark, myself and others can sha re our experience.
