Re: ABS Brake Failure

Post by TicTac50 »

Hi guys.
It has been a while since I visited this board.
It looks like my ABS unit took a dive. It was fine up till now. New battery did not help
ABS light will be blinking 5 times and the warning light starts blinking together with the ABS light.
So.... How do you guys determine that servo unit is bad?
Did anybody ever solved the problem by flashing the whole system?
It looks like I will be looking for TowerWorker or SweetMark for the help to remove my ABS. :D
P.S. there are 2 blue relays in the fuse box. They are both the same, but if switched (rotate) them the ABS clicking sound is gone.
Thanks.

It's against my nature to just remove something that was originally a big part of my R, but apparently I would get over that :) This was my first bike in about 25 years when I bought it slightly used in 2008 and I've been very happy with it until this (which I had a hand in due to lack of flushing and it sitting for a year). It's always been my daily driver, and I never really planned on selling this, so if that is true then maybe I don't need to explain an ABS-ectomy to a buyer. I'll let you guys know what happens...

I couldn't find anything to tell me a non abs bike was worth any less, in some cases, more.... Plus, like you, I plan on riding it until its demise, not selling. So the implied value loss, was well... LOST on me. 8)

Tic Tac,

I was in residual mode on the rear. Flushed The Who,e system twice, replaced pads, replaced battery all with no change. Reviewed with dealer and another local mechanic who removes the abs on this bike, and they both gave me no hope. So I removed it and have moved on. It was not that hard, and the bike stops fine.

Well... I flushed the system and cleaned the calipers and pads. Still the system comes up with the same problem.
My buddy showed up with my old 2006 LT .
Pulled 2 blue relays from his bike and put into my bike. Viola =D>
It looks like one of them on my bike went south. Got the used one of the eBay .
Everything is back to normal. :D I don't think the next time I will be soooo lucky. [-o<
The time has come to say goodbye to my 2004 R1150 with 55K .
While I was at the dealership (refusing the full ABS replacement) that brand new RT was calling my name.
I just hope that the dealer is really, really motivated. :-k

Well. The dealer knows me well enough.
Years back he saw me looking at the LT.
And was very disappointed when I got my LT out of state.
