I came out from paying for my gas last night and a car had hit my bike! It was still standing but the muffler was pretty f*cked up. It was scraped real bad and kind of dangling. I came home and took the muffler off...the rest of the bike seems ok. Thank goodness BMWs have that catalytic converter, so I can run sans can for a while.
Actually, the sound is pretty bad-ass! I had read the threads on here about taking the can off, the sound really is a lot deeper and richer...very satisfying. It sucks that I didn't have a choice, but it really turned out for the good.
I'm having a buddy inspect the exhaust system in case the impact transmitted the damage further down the line...otherwise I'm stopping on the way home to buy one of those exhaust tips for $4 to make it look intentional!

MisterCindy,
No, I don't know who it was...no one even mentioned it or said they saw anything. I called a friend who is a cop instead of "calling the police." He said they don't even write reports on accidents without injuries anymore! Considering the neighborhood, he said odds were that they didn't have insurance anyway.
Boxer,
I usually pay at the pump with a card and never even get off the bike. This time I had to break a $20 to have lunch money for my girlfriend's son the next day. I didn't leave the bike at the pump, though. I pumped and then moved the bike to a parking space. I didn't notice the car beside me, but I'll pay more attention from now on!
