hey people, been down south to atlanta from cape cod area. of course we took the mt. rt..dragon,skyway, blood mt., just incredible riding down there. 2900 miles round trip 8 days including two at the track. butt pad only do so much. anyway short on time on the way back so we hit 81n in va. trailers on that road fly ,got boxed in for couple of miles started to hit a hill they slowed and moved enough to make a hole, hit the gas, soon as we hit the rise looked left at the radar ,swore, pulled into slow lane and waited, not long mind you. anyway he pulled me not the guy i was following and writes a 89/65 reckless driving. anyone have any experience in va.

Yes, I agree with Lion_Lady, I'd advise getting a lawyer from that area!
That fine carries 6 points and possible license suspension and they aren't poo, because a court appearance is mandatory! Your state probably has a reciprocal agreement with Virginia, but chances are Virginia will not send your points, etc. to your state. The fine ranges from $150 to like $500.
It does pays to get a lawyer, though, because you will be able to reduce the fine and points! Trust me, I'm speaking from experience!!!

Sorry, it's been awhile since I first posted about my citation. I have contacted a lawyer in Luray who said he would represent me. I have to send him a copy of my driving record and any other pertinent info regarding my responsibility and character along with a check. He said he will represent me in Court and I shouldn't have to show up. He said hopefully he can talk to the officer and get him to lower the speed to below the reckless threshhold if I agree to pay the fine based on the higher speed along with the court costs. He knew who the officer was and said he is a pretty reasonable guy. Since I didn't give him a hard time, he thinks he can probably get it lowered to a simple speeding charge. If that doesn't work, then we have to plead my case before the judge. I'll let you know how it turns out. He said it could take a few months. Also, about making an example etc. The attorney said the law is the same day after day. It doesn't change because of what is or is not happening at any given time. It may change the way the police do their job and what and how they enforce the law. As a motorcyclist, he said I shouldn't be treated any differently than someone in a car who was doing the same thing. I guess that's nice to know.

Luray County, huh? That's where I got my ticket also. I also hired a lawyer and did not have to appear in court, but my lawyer did. I wish you luck, but your case will more than likely go before a Judge. They are very strict about enforcing these moving violations! You have to go to a DRIVER IMPROVEMENT COURSE. Virginia Speeding

Congrats on surviving the VA traffic court system. I'd imagine that it is the same everywhere with regional variations. Based on my conversations with local and State LEO's recently the VA enforcement is picking up for 3 reasons.
1) Two new crops of State Police graduates are now on the streets, literally. They enforce to a stricter level than the older, cynical, experienced ones do. But they have the duty!
2) Localities clamoring for more share of revenues generated AND local Boards of Supervisors (a largely powerless political entity in VA) clamoring for stricter enforcement in their jurisdictions. Hence the recent upsurge in enforcing the felony provisions of excessive speed. I-95 and I-81 are critical N-S arteries for interstate commerce; have high average speeds (75-80 in a 65) and a good number of faster drivers 85-95mph types. Fatalities are up. Enforcement is up. And the road is too small for the traffic burden it bears. Local highways are merely targets of opportunity for the local enforcers.
3) Out of State revenue beats in state revenue. Seriously, it is an unspoken truth.
So basically, in VA, travel with or just behind the pack. Don't stand out. You'll make plenty of good time and avoid the LEO stops. I've modified my behavior after 3 tickets in 6 months (all cage; all in 2000) and determined that I get where I am going fast enough by letting the speed demons go on ahead and clear the radar for me.
