Planning a trip

Post by DK »

Since it's tough to ride in the Chicago area this time of year, I thought I'd start dreaming of summer trips. :D

My dad and I are planning on a trip out to Mt Rushmore and points further that are yet to be determined. I was just wondering if anyone had suggestions for routes out that way. We would be leaving from Northern IL. The only destination we have decided on so far is Mt Rushmore so the balance of the trip is open. We're looking at 7-10 days for now.

So, if anyone has any ideas for good rides in that area let me know.

I don't know any routes but my general experiences are these:

US highways are great motorcycle touring routes; especially when an Interstate highway has replaced the travel direction and drawn the traffic from it.

Major state connector highways are next best routes. Federal dollars helped upgrade amny of these to good hioghway levels.

Don't pass the mom and pops. Bad gas and poor food but nice people who are happy to see you. And memories are made on the back roads.

Go to the Bash in May of 2006. Many people with megamiles of traveling will be there. And it is only about 400 miles from Chicago. Look iin the group rides section. :D
