I used Dawn dishwashing detergent. Fortunately, I caught my leak fairly quickly and had the dealer fix it under warranty.

I finally found the clamps in the 5/16 inch size needed. An Advance Auto in Charleston, WV had them.

Edit:
These are obviously for 1/4" I.D hose. I found these to be to small.

I got mine from a BMW bike shop. The part # is 17121461500

They were under $2 each.

Be very careful when cutting off the old clamps so your movements DO NOT stress both the plastic QD fittings AND the thin black plastic fuel rail that disappears into the bike above the engine's backside. Cracking or breaking that lightweight fuel rail will require expensive surgury and extensive downtime to replace it.

Thanks for the tip Rob. Each package of 4 was about $2. I hope to find a pair of end cutters and get at least one of these (my leaky one) replace today.

I did the deed yesterday. Took off my tank and replaced the battery. See all the gory details here

Mainly, I finally replaced that leaky fuel line clamp.

What's surprising is I did not use the 5/16 size(Correction: I didn't use the 1/4" 52F13v) . After removing the screw and spreading apart the clamp to get it over the fuel rail I slid it up over the fuel hose. Once on the hose The holes for the screw did not line up because the clamp was expanded so far. I used one stamped with a 14 (mm?) and clamped it down fully. It's the 2 larger ones in this picture:

The fuel rail had worked it's way out of the fuel hose so that I could see the transition to a larger diameter. I don't know if the cracks in the fuel hose are a result of that larger diameter being at the very end of the hose, or if they're a result of the new clamp. I wasn't alarmed until I looked at the picture.

DSKYZD, I need clarification. Did you use 52F13v or 52F15v? As Whaycoc says, the 52F15v, which is stamped 14, is the one for 5/16. Also, wouldn't these clamps be changed for free under the recall? And finally, my clamps look like the old style. If the recall had been applied to my bike would the clamps look any different?
Thanks!

Greetings Carlos!

Sorry for the confusion, let me try to explain myself.

See this link for reference

I was wrong when I thought the smaller sized clamps I found pictured above in packaging (52F13v) were 5/16. It says plainly on the back of the package the 13v is for 1/4 inch I.D. hose.

2 clamps of the size I did use, are pictured above with a key. They are on the right and one of the 13v's is above the key on the left. Unfortunately, I don't know what size they are. That's why I took that picture. They came in a pack from Autozone that included 2 different sizes. The smaller size turns out to be the same as the 13v.

I was after the 5/16 size all along which I mistakenly though was smaller than the smallest size in the mixed pack I already had. Once I started the job I had to use the larger of the two sizes I'd purchased. That's the "AWAB 14" one pictured with the key. If the 14 IS mm, that's much larger than 5/16" or even 3/8" of the 52F16v.

So, if you're still with me, I have no clue what I actually put on the bike. Plus, what I used may be too big.

Now, about your question of the recall and work done by the dealer. It's my understanding that the recall only requires that the dealer TIGHTEN the clamps (with their special tool) or possibly replace them with the same clamp. So, visually, there's no way to know if the recall has been performed. By the same reasoning, it seems possible for leaks to start again even after the recall is perfomed.

I think the leak comes from the clamps loosing grip after cycles of hot and cold temperatures.

I'd have my dealer do this but I don't have easy access due to weather and distance. My leak was only from one clamp when the temps are low. It doesn't leak anymore, so I'm happy (for now).

I've made a mess of this thread which I had hoped would be a useful reference, possibly even archived at some point.

Actually, it is all clear now. The confusion comes from the nomenclature of the clamps: 52F15v, which is stamped 14 (not 15), is for 5/16 ID. Why would they quote an ID rather than OD? The 14 probably signifies 14mm OD. Not that clear unless you read it here, right?

Thanks also for explaining the procedure of the recall. I bought mine used and I did not understand the issue.

Hey Brian - Mind if I ask you how much that Panasonic Battery ran you?
Is it Gel? I have a strong feeling I should replace my battery soon or I may be running on borrowed time.
