Mounting Electronics on the R1150R

Post by Dr Adventure »

I'm not one to be too impressed with gizmos and I've always loved the naked look of the RR. I don't even own system cases or a tank bag, preferring to bungee things on the back and take them off as soon as I get to my destination. Obviously, one can only go so far like this. I am heading from eastern Pennsylvania to Wisconsin this summer and doing several overnights with buddies on weekends, and my buddies are insisting I get at least a CB to communicate with them.

So, finally, here's the question: can I mount a variety of electonics on the upper face of a tank bag and have good access to them? I can imagine that I will eventually have an iPod, CB, and GPS (God forbid) on there. I have seen "electronic bags" by Marsee, but these seem focused on letting riders recharge their stuff in the bag, not running them on the top of the bag. The vision I have is a power cord going into the bag from the outlet on the bike into the bag where everything can plug into a power strip or something in there, and all interfaces are visible to the rider from the top. I also like the fact that I could unplug the tank bag from the bike and the tank bag from the antennae and helmet speakers and take the tank bag into a restaurant and therefore keep my valuable electronics with me. Or maybe this will be too dangerous, i.e., looking down fiddling with controls may cause me to run into the back of a truck or something.

Thanks for any experience you could pass my way.

Tell them, in the nicest way possible, to **** off. :P CB's belong in trucks and two-wheeled winnebagos. If they are your buddies I'm sure they will understand.
