OK, I'm not exactly new here, having been a Roadster board member for several years. Not many posts over the past year, but jumping back into the fray.
First Beemer was '96 R850R, after 15 years of crotch-rocketing.
Then bought an '02 R1150R, best all-'round bike I've ever owned.
And then "Bird Killer"*, an '01 R1100R for my wife.
Finally, we've changed up again with the purchase of a "new" '04 Edition 80 Rockster, in like-new condition with 500 miles on it.
Impressions of Rockster versus Roadster:
(1) Roadster is unflappably stable at all speeds less than 100mph, "closed course professional riders only";
(2) Rockster is a bit more sporty and nimble, more feel from the front end, sacrifices some low speed (e.g. parking lot) stability;
(3) Character of the bikes (indestructible Renaissance-motorrad utility) is identical and consistent;
(4) Visual flair is a matter of taste... my wife is now admiring my Rockster more than her newly inherited R1150R Roadster! Will we become a double Rockster family?!

*"Bird Killer" - some poor Barn Swallow decided to fly through the R1100R's front (spoked) wheel during my ride from Pheonix (bike purchase) up to Torrey, UT for last years Roadster Fest. The guys at Torrey discovered the carnage while inspecting the one & only R850/1100 Roadster present at the inaugural event. Photographic evidence available.

Mine's Edition 80 #0142, which seems to be missing some of the "standard" features of the special bike, e.g. pillion cover and gratis accessory plug. Maybe a visit to my favorite shop will rectify the omissions, as per other folks' comments?
Yep, the Mrs. might gravitate towards a Rockster herself, though I think she'll quickly grow to love the R1150R Roadster for its stability and comfort. The bike trade-up is gonna cost me, though: promised her the MotoLights currently installed on the Edn80 as part of the hand-me-down deal!

Nice choice on the Ed80. I wish you a long and happy career with the new bike. The Ed80 was my second choice when I bought my Roadster in '03, but in Japan, you could only buy it with the factory tour feature and the price was way too much.
Anyway, I have a question. You mentioned '04 Ed80. Isn't the Ed80 only an 03 model?
Of course the Euro and Asian '03 models were the same as the '04 US models (Twin Spark). Maybe that's the confusion.
