How weak is your lock?

Post by lokiwong »

I found something about lock from the web. Unfortunately, most of locks on the market are JOKE...

1) A normal key

Use the following tool to push all pins to a correct location and the lock can be opened!

Image

How fast to pick this type of lock? 5 seconds

Video - http://dp.penix.org/locks/pick.avi

2) Another way to open a pad lock

Image

How long does it takes? 5 seconds...for an unexperienced guy

3) Tubular Lock

Many disc locks use tubular lock

Image

It cannot be pciked by traditional lock picking tool, but the following can

Image

How long does it takes? 10 seconds...

4) A key like the following one

Image

is a little bit difficult to be picked by traditional tools.

But there are many special tools for picking this lock.

It takes a "Long Time" to open this lock. How long does it takes? 30 seconds......

Finally, A new methode is invented. Using a special key and a small hammer, it can pick almost all locks on the market in seconds,

http://www.locks.ru/win/informat/bump/M ... ssic_s.asf

Someone belive that this methode is the end of lock

Unfortunately, all bad guys knew it and all the mentioned tools can be purchased very easily!

Buddy, take good care of your bike....

at lease take some photos with her before it is too late.... :P

GOOD LUCK

My Lock

Post by MikeCam »

At home my lock is a 12 guage loaded with mixed buckshot and slugs (finishing shots). Away from home the lock is a .45 cal when I am within visible range of the bike.

Good luck all you locksmiths and budding criminals.

(I would opine that the criminal with enough wherewithal to acquire the tools and skills to use them as opposed to fumble fingered perps, would go after bigger game than a single bike.)

Mikecam aka: dingle Cheney (yuck yuck)

I had mentioned weeks ago that someone had tried to steal my new Roadster by rolling it away, but my "Emgo" disc lock stopped him/them. After that I had to store my bike elsewhere which makes riding it more difficult (but at least I've still got it!)

I too believe in our wonderful second amendment, but in retrospect, I'm glad that I *didn't* catch the thief in the act of trying to steal my bike. I may have grabbed my 357. and ended up paying ten time what the bike is worth in legal bills and more than likely, been sentenced to prison.

Probably the best defense is to take reasonably security precautions with locks etc. (gps tracking is now an option for bikes) and make sure that you've got good insurance and it's paid up.

Shooting a man over your motorcycle probably isn't worth it. Beating him severely with a bat: PRICELESS.

Four guys; two poles; a pickup truck, and your bike is gone in seconds. No lock picking required. If someone wants to steal your bike, they can.

The best thing I can think of, is bringing it out of sight.
Like a friend does, she's bringing her (non-beemer) bike into her living room.

Harry,

You are up in Montgomery, Prince George's, Baltimore, Anne Arundel county??? You are correct, shooting a property thief in that jurisdiction is a no win situation.

I won't shoot a guy for trying to steal my bike. But I will try to stop him nonetheless. If this act provokes him to threaten my life, then I will shoot him. See the guiltless and crime-free logic there?

A weak lock is better than a leaky wok. IMO.

I posted elsewhere that an older friend of mine rode with an empty pistol holster strapped in full view on the side of his bike. His reasoning was any potential thiefs would wonder how close the owner and his gun were and move on to someone else's bike.

And I agree with yjleesvrr's logic. Confront the thief but be prepared!
