Bubbling Paint

Post by houndog »

Please help me guys. :? I was looking at my bike last night and noticed some paint bubbling on by Right cylinder head cover. The bubbles are at the aft side in the cooling grooves. each one of them has a bubble of various size. The right side also has one, i expect more will show up. I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing it. I haven't spilled anything on there. I don't know what to do. Has anyone heard of this before? Should I go to the dealer? Or should I just take them off and paint them flat black to match my Rock?

Help me guy's I am sitting here crying.

Press on the bubbles, and see if anything comes out, such as oil...

My f650CS had a VERY slow oil drip - a dime size or smaller in a day. Eventual diagnosis was: a porous engine case. Engine was replaced under warranty.

It took almost 3 years for the oil to saturate the metal and finally emerge.

It's probably a bad paint job that cause the bubbling.

Tommy dude! Don't cry!

Being the hater of blue parts (especially the heads) all over my green and black...I'd like to make a motion that you choose your second option....pull them buggers off and paint them black!!!

Looks very zexy and you'd be amazed at how much it changes the complexion of the bike!!

I have piccys of before and after if ya wanna see them! :P

It's not difficult at all mate...

Pull the plug cable cover off and there's two bolts each....back those all the way until they come loose (don't try and pull them out yet...there is a grommet on them), and then gently wiggle the cover until it comes off. Should be stuck on pretty good because of the heat. :p

You want to then clean them up really good and get all the oil/dirt off of them and go ahead and remove the retaining screws/bolts at the same time. You also want to go to your dealer as there is a little grommet gasket thing that slips over the spark plug and you should not reuse the one that's there now. They're like a buck each. Get that PJ1 - Satin Black case paint from your local dealer while your there.

Then it's just a matter of lightly sanding them and painting. The only real beeatch is the in-between the fins area.

Piece o'cake! Have fun!

EDIT: PS.....you need to be careful when you remove the spark plug cable. There is a little clip there that you squeeze together to remove. I was told that if you break the clip, the whole harness has to be replaced and it's quite expensive!!
