Problem with my Rock....

Hi people, it's been a while since I've posted, sorry...been very busy lately.

I have a small mechanical question. My Rockster is starting to make some weird noise around thedrive shaft plastic joint...., well in the joint....There is a skouwyking sound when you swing on the bike. You now the sound that makes an old bed when your having sex. :shock: ... well on my Rockster, it is not a pleasant sound to hear.

I would like to know what is the problem with it......here is a picture :

Remember the person who's rear wheel just broke at the axle.....don't want to experience the same thing...

Sounds like a trip to the dealer to me.

If this was a K I'd be sure it was the drive splines they need plenty of Moly lube (but I'm quite new to Oilheads they may be different.)

It's eaither that or the bearings in the casing take it apart and give it some lube.

K and R are identical in this respect. (apart from the new K1200s)

ho well I found where exactely the sound was coming from.....just under that part.

Took it apart and greased it...sound is gone.

BUt guess what, Now there is a klunking sound in me gear box..... Guess will have to go to the dealer anyway.... SO many problems with this Rockster....good thing it still under warranty.

Clunking changing gear is not unusual with BM's. Clunking between drive and overun would most likelys indicate cluctch splines or drive shaft splines.

Given that one bearing was dry its likely that others are the same :(

If its under warranty I'd take it in. If not check the backlash at the wheel if its excessive say 45 degrees or more you have a problem. If baklash is less take out the drive shaft and give the splines a good dose of Optimoly paste

Sorry for my French, but I do not understand those two words....cluctch splines or drive shaft splines.

Actually I' m french , so it is ok for me not knowing this.... :lol: :lol:

I went to the dealer, since it's still under warranty, and the mechanic thinks they have to change the drive shaft and maybe more.... He's going to see everything when he splits the bike in half.... :shock: :shock: :shock:

Can wait to know what is the problem. Because I'm starting to think that this bike is not for me. I'm to hard on this bike.... Maybe I need something that will give me the punch that I love on this bike, with out tear and wear.....

When I say punch,it is the acceleration at start....

I've ridden my Rockster harder than any bike can be...........for 18000 miles now, and I'm extremely happy to say that I've had no service issues. I doubt that your Rockster is "soft" when it comes to hard riding. you need some patience with the dealer, and allow them to fix the problem. I know that I can't say the same, but the BMW is a good bike

Sorry I don't speak technical French :oops:

Sounds like your dealer is on the right track. The splines transfer power from
the gearbox to the driveshaft to the gear box and allow it to slide.

They have always been a weak point in K's

Stick with the Rock, it may be a bit agravating until it gets settled down but it will outlast nearly every other bike out there.

I've abused many BMW's over the years and so long as you service them they just keep going & going & going

FWIW I very definitely abused my Rockster - and the shaft splines did go - after about 35000 miles. :D

OK finally, I'm so happy that I have A warranty on this bike...

By the time I got to the garage, I had two big bubble on my Head ccovers.

Now what was the problem... whell it was the driveshaft, it was twisted.

Yep , My driveshaft was twisted, unbeleavable.

So they replaced it and also my two head covers. The covers were overheated by the engine that was forcing due the driveshaft.

Now everything is in working order.

wow - can't believe you twisted the driveshaft!

Do you pull wheelies everytime you leave the traffic lights??

No I'd never done any wheelies, because don't like wheelies. But I do twist the handle on each starts....

Lets say that I have to change my rear tire each 3500km. It is a Z6, roadtec.
