Do Extra Large Lids require modification to muffler side?
Hey everyone,
Thinking of taking a long trip and buying some extra large lids to haul the extra gear. I know that the lids bolt right up to the throttle side of the bike but I remember people stating that to mount on the clutch side of the bike that a modifictation is required. Am I correct?

No
The lids fit without mods. (Except for drilling out the rivets and replacing the hinge bolts...)
It is the full size left case base (locking part) that requires the exhaust mod.

The Older I Get, The Less I Know.
Exhaust mod info please
Mikecam,
Thanks for the info. Do you have a link to the exhaust mod info for the left side case?

I was trying to find the part #'s for the BMW oem lowering kit the other day, and i had the parts guy at the dealer look it up...
...he came to the conclusion that it would be a no-go becuase to adequetly secure the can, I would have to buy a new exhaust "heat shield" to the tune of $250+ US....
...If people have knowledge otherwise, I surely welcome it!

Boxer - Try a specialist engineering hardware store if you have such a thing. I go mine from one who had a 'display board' of all the different sizes. Cost was only a couple of bucks, versus about $20 for a similar one from an exhaust shop.
Failing that, I can get one here in Aus and post it over. Cost should be minimal to send it. I just removed my stubby exhaust and put the original can back on as my bike is for sale, so I can send my used clamp if that suits.
It's just a simple aircraft type stainless steel band clamp.
Actually, PM me with a postal address and I'll get a new one and send it over the pond. It's no big deal as the shop is not far from where I work.
