Charging lug installation

Has anyone on the board installed the charging lug on their cycle? I purchased the parts which consists of: a lug, washer and rubber cap.
I removed the starter cover, but I think I am missing a wire connector or possibly some other parts. I can't see were I would attach the lug.

Any help would be appreciated.

I installed mine - it goes directly on the bolt of the starter solenoid. The 'hard' part is marking the hole to drill in the solenoid cover.

I installed one some time ago on a friend's r1150r. The wire and the connectors were already there and they were tied to the frame near place for the plug. I don't know if this is the same on all models but it's worth taking the time to look.

I just bought the parts to do that myself. I couldn't find a drawing that shows how the terminal is supposed to be oriented on the positive lug of the starter. Also, how did you figure out precisely where to drill the hole in the starter cover... and what size is it supposed to be?

Any detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about my response. I didn't read it carefully enough and I thought you were referring to a charging socket through an accessory plug.

As for the drillbit size, I used the lug to find something close that I already had. I just checked and it looks like about a 1/2" drill bit. Definitely larger than a 3/8".

To mark the drill point on the cover, I put a dab of grease on the end of the lug (after I mounted it on the solenoid terminal) and tried to put the cover on, which left a small amount of grease on the inside of the cover. Then drill away!

Where exactly is the best spot to attach the negative cable during jump, on a 2002 R1150?

When you buy the parts to add on the terminal, buy an extra lug... it replaces one of the small screws at the base of the cylinder, right ahead of the starter housing.

Thanks for the pictures. From the last picture I can see that I am missing the L bracket that bolts to the top starter stud. I only have the silver attaching lug. Does it thread into the L bracket or is their a clearance hole and I need a nut?

It threads into the L bracket. I drilled a hole in the cover that is the smaller diameter of the lug, which means I have to remove the lug to remove the cover. I'll try to get some more pictures this evening - my wife has the camera. I never attached a negative lug since I can usually find a ground on the bike. I know it's not 'best practice', but it works.

The funny thing is, since I instaleld the lug I've never had to get a jump start!

Yes, Thanks for the photos. I went to the dealer and they acually had the bracket in stock that I was missing. Completed the install this morning. Could not have done it without the help. Thanks again.
