For all of those who have lowered their stock exhaust. I just did this myself. I purchased only the BMW brackets and pipe. The heat shield was just TOO expensive IMHO. After some consideration I thought that possibly I could alter the stock heatshield so that the mod did not look too unfinished. I think the results are worth the effort.
Thanks for the assistance.

Stick 'em on photobucket website free of charge and then link to image url putting it between 'Img' tags in your post and it should appear. It will be in the preview if you get it right. No spaces between the tags and the url. The tag button is at the top right of the reply page and you need one before(opening) and one after (closing), like this:

PS the website url is not always the same as the direct link to the image. When you've posted one right click it and check properties for the correct address.

The kit with the two brackets and screws was $84.80 and the short angled pipe was $36.00. These are from Chicago BMW which includes 20% off the list prices. I also needed an addition clamp that can be purchased from bmw for apx $18.00. The heat shield if you desire it costs apx. $300 ouch!! This is why most people that perform the lowering don't get the fancy heatshield. This heat shield also has the clamps built into it. So, most people buy 2 additional clamps and do without the shield.

Your exhaust pipe looks so much cleaner than mine!
Thanks for the info. I have experimented with the muffler can removal as a means to get the full size bag but have had no satisfaction making an exhaust tip look right or stay put with parts I can find locally. I may have to bite the bullet and get the lowering kit!
What did you do to the heat shield? Looks like you put a crimp in it to bend to the proper angle.

Actually the crimp you see in the picture already exists on the shield. I think it is there for heal clearance or something. To mod the shield I cut the front portion to get the needed clearance. I also needed to bend the shield in the crimped area slightly outward. BTW, I used simichrome polish to clean the muffler, shield and new intermediate pipe. FYI I see on ebay some company was selling old stock wudo kits for the GS model. I have no experience with these kits, but for the price you might be able to make it work. Eh, don't feel bad...wncbmw wrote:Thanks for the info. I should have walked downstairs and looked at my own heat shield before typing!
... you should have seen my reaction when I rode my new bike the 200miles home from the dealer, only to discover that the exhaust had a big dent in it! '
Grrr!!!!
Then I realized my error. (I think it's cut out for the center stand foot thing)
