Handgrips

Post by paroyboy »

My 04 has the heated handgrips. Is it possible to put different grips with more padding on or are the covers integral to the heating elements? Thinking about the possible 11 hour trip to Canada, the only thing that worries me is the numb hand problem after about 45 minutes-one hour. Gel gloves would probably fix it too but softer grips would be nice. Any ideas?

Get a Throttle Rocker and don't hold on so tight.

Have a Throttle Rocker on it already. Its my left hand that bothers me usually. Carpal Tunnel might have something to do with it too. I had my right hand done but never went through it with my left.

Yes you can change the grips, just be careful not to damage the heater wires under the grips. I put on gel sportbike grips. I hated the stock grips from the start.

You can fit aftermarket grips...you need to buy two sets..and use both right hand (throttle) sides.

Why can you only use the right side grip?

Our left grip is not a normal size...because of the heated grips.

I installedNOS neoprene grip covers from casporttouring.com ($15.99) over my grips (easily installed since they are velcro wraparounds that are like wetsuit material and come in different colors). I haven't tried them with the grip heaters yet as it hasn't been cold here since I got them. The extra cushioning is nice, the large grip is great, but I don't think they'll cure your CTS problem.
