Tire choices

Okay, so it seems alot of folks like the diablo stradas. I just put a pair on last week and so far have not been impressed. The rear feels squishy and soft. My PSI is set at what BMW lists on the the sticker under the seat, 34 front and 36 rear. When I first got them back from the shop, I checked the PSI when I put them on the bike. The shop had them both at 40. The tire lists a max cold PSI as 42. My first ride with tires at 40 felt like my old Dunlops which I liked, but was just around the block a few times to check my putting the wheels back on. Now that I have lowered the PSI and have had them on the highway at speed, I dont like them. What are you guys running your tires at?

I fitted my wheels back on yesterday and the tire shop had also filled with 40psi - I am going for a ride later today so I'll get back to you!

If you like 40psi keep 40psi............how much do you weigh? I always tend to have a couple of extra pounds in as I am over 200lbs

I am a little over 200 w/o gear on. I have today off and am sure I will bored around the house a bit. Think I will take the bike for a spin around a curvy loop by me, let the tires cool and then put 40 in them and see what kind of difference it makes.

Did a couple of hundred miles on my new Diablo Stradas - very pleased. Straightline stability is spot on, turn in is responsive and confidence inspiring with very good feedback. Traction and comfort also seem good.

I have them at 34psi front, 36 psi rear. The roads today were a mixture of dry and damp with ambient temperature about 20oC (about 69oF). Surface was typical Vermont..........twist, hilly and rough excpet where it got too rough and has been smoothed out!

Definately pleased with my choice, just hope they last longer than 4,000 miles.

I have the Pirelli Scorpion Syncs fitted and I have found 34 psi front and 38 psi rear seem to work well, I weigh about 200 ready to ride. They replaced a set of Pilot Roads that came on the bike. The roads lasted about 9,000 miles and got milked for another 1,000. So far the Syncs are proving to be a very good Vermont tire for the mix of surfaces here.

I rode the same route to work I normally do yesterday with the tires at 37 and 39. This seemed to help the stability of the bike some. I think tomorrow I am going to tatke it out on my favorite loop and mess with the suspension some and see if thats the remainder of the problem I am feeling and see if I can get the PSI down a bit more.

i've just put some metzeler sportec m1's on and its better than the 014's i had on, maybe its cos they're new and i'd been running on worn tyres for a little too long, but they do seem better than the 014's. i'd been using 014's for a couple of years and get about 5k miles out of the rear, well, about 4 if i'd changed them at the right time, but 4-5k miles isn't too bad is it? the level of grip was excellent, i'd never managed to scrape the pegs before the 014's, or even wanted to, but 014's will help that, and with the new metz's its just begging to be leant over. i've read on this site that some people can get up to 11k miles out of a rear, is that by not using the power of the engine and just walking the thing about? fair play if you do but are the tyres made of some kind of metal? i ride my bike to enjoy the ride, and do about 10-15k miles per year, (42k and counting) trouble is what bike do i get next? where do you go from probably the best bike (overall) i'm ever gonna own? 1100s mamola? r1200r? decisions decisions..........

Since I encounter extended sections of gravel and hard-pack roads occasionally in my travels, I think I will still try the Syncs. Unimproved road capability was what led me to the D616's where I accidentally discovered that the rear profile mattered.
