These mirrors are SOOO much better than stock! I can see behind me now! They don't vibrate near as much either. BMW should scrap the round mirrors. These look better, work better. 'nuff said.
Also got the cylinder guards from Tom. Very nice and cover up my boo boo from last month ...
Your R is what I want my R to look like in the near future. Except my R is silver, has regular system cases, and no top case. OK, I guess it's not quite what I want it to look like.
But, I do want to add the same Vario screen, hand-guards, cylinder guards, and K mirrors.

Renagade -- you can probably get the mirrors new at a BMW dealer, they're mirror for the K1200 RS (part number: 51167653773 [left] and 51167653774 [right] ) and here in the US are around $65 each. I've been looking for awhile, on ebay and other ads.
DJ: yes, a couple of extra FCS fins from one or more of the boards that are stored above the bike in the garage.
Hmmm....I've thought about hand guards as a functional feature. But, in photos I'd seen, they made the Mickey Mouse ears mirrors look even worse. You additions cleaned up BOTH issues and adds to the view to the rear. Nice job.

You do need to use something like a Dremel tool to shave off part of the lower plastic on the left side mirror. this is needed to allow the choke lever to move freely. But, other than that, they work (and look) great!

For the UK bunch - I have installed the same mirrors - purchased from Barry Robson, BMW dealer in York. tel 01904 691470. Cost about £70 for the pair. Went straight on with no mods. I have not bothered with a cutaway for the choke lever yet. I may get round to it in time. I also have the handguards but have tie-wrapped them onto the bars as they do not fit. I think they are a GS part - not an R part.
Dang, I was trying to pinpoint the exact location from your photo, guessing that it's Point Loma in the background, likely from Shelter Island, but couldn't get a good view on Google Earth. Anyway, was noting the mirrors - mine came with the ovals, lucky me.
Is that a "Dead Sheep" on your seat? Is the seat stock, or did you upgrade? I'm looking to upgrade before my next long trip next summer (likely to Yosemite), so I'm gathering data now.

dnat: The photo is at the very west end of Harbor Island, looking toward Shelter Island and Pt Loma, so you were close. It's in the parking lot for Tom's Lighthouse restaurant. This is the stock seat with the ALASKA Leather's deluxe sheepskin pad. I like it alot, my bum was not at all sore on my 1500 mile jaunt around California in October. I've added a little bit of padding onto the rear of the pad, since I've removed the passenger seat and it's just a little "butt stop" so to speak.
The hand guards are stock GS models. Difficult to make fit, but it can be done without modifying the guards, at least in my case they were. It does require forcing the guards to bend to your will a little, particularly on the left side. Right side goes on pretty easy. Both sides go on easier if you cut all the zip ties around the cords, and retie new ones after.
On the mirror stocks there is a lower plastic piece that has to be modified for the left side mirror to fit without interferring with the choke lever. Simply use a dremel or similar tool to grind off some of the plastic and it'll work just fine.
I just did my mirror installation yesterday. The Dremel with a sanding drum worked fine for hogging out a small area for the idle lever to move freely. The bummer was having to go buy a set of metric allen-key wrenches to do the job right.
I have the same dead-sheep pad, and I wouldn't want to be without it now.
I bought the same mirrors about a year ago (used on iBMWR) - excellent, one of the best improvements I did for my moped. Worth while hunting for, IMHO.
