System Case Lids Question

Post by colinpollock »

Hey All,

I'm in the process of trying to find a set of used system cases and the large(deep) lids. I came across a sale of some "deep" system case lids for a good price, but I can't tell if they are in fact the large lids or the standard lids. The depth to the middle of the lid is about 5 inches, and about 3.5 inches at the edge. Can anyone tell me if these are the standard or the large "deep" lids?

I'd post an image, but I don't know how. Sorry.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like standard system lids to me - Mine are about the same (can't measure them as I'm at work). The 'supersize' lids are enormous.

The extra large lids are not much wider in the center..but much more boxy looking...from what I've seen in pics.

btw...you will need to hang a sign saying 'Danger Wide load' to use them.. :D

The supersize lids go outwards at the TOP of the lid, the "regulars" get wider as they go DOWN.

at least - that's what I've always thought when I've seen pics...

I have a friend that has a set of the big-butt lids if anyone is interested. He's selling his bike (K1200RS) along with the parts he has for it. He picked these up from another friend that used them on his R1100R for extended trips. I'll try to get some pictures so you can see the differences.

My friend took a few pics to show the size differences:

He said with the large lids on, you could pretty much land a plane on the back of your bike.

NOTE: These do NOT come with the "Wide Load" signs.

be more obvious if someone with both sets of lids could take pics whilst the boxes are on the bike. :) (and with a nice light coloured background for decent contrast. ;))

There WAS a site showing all 3 different lids like this somewhere - made it very clear what the differences were.
