Yup, it's ugly all right........but if I could afford one, it would suddenly become beautiful.

I don't think it is ugly at all. Just not attractive enough to overcome my love for my current ride. I have no doubt I'll buy one but not for a while.

Now a GS is ugly. When they came out, I said who would buy a bike that ugly. Until I rode one. Rolling down a curvy road, it is beautiful! :wink: So I bought one. Unfortunately though, for the inseam challenged, coming to a stop can be ugly also! Looks even worse laying on it's side! :oops:

Yep, but what they said...eventually I'll give in and they'll immediately bring out something even uglier!

The bike is beautiful. Incredibly appealing.

It's the $5k+ USD MSRP over my R1150R that is ugly.

Ugly?

Post by hankth »

Now the 1200C is ugly! When I first saw one, I thought, man that is just wrong! No matter what they tried to do with it, it just seemed wrong to me. So, beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Peace.

It ain't ugly at all. Only other bike I would cosidder in the naked class would be the KTM Superduke but this doesn't come with abs so I went with the R1200R in black. Best bike I ever had and I haven't heard anyone describe it as ugly when they saw the bike in the flesh. Certainly not uglier then a R1100/1150R and mutch lighter,faster better braking etc.

Not ugly, but not as beautiful as the R1150R. The vestigial bump that pays homage to the functional oil coolers, and the single cast telelever arm just doesn't do the previous bike justice.

It may not be prettty,
I lusted for an R1200S for months.
Ducati S4rs, R1200ST;
Even considered a street glide for G*ds sake!!
BUT
When my 1150 R broke down;
it took me the time to fill a check to get the new R.
I had not even considered the new R.
I did not even considered the price, weird.
I sure like hell do not "like" the bike.
But it sure IS the motorcycle for me!!!!
Still waiting for ohlins ......

Ugly. I could see why if you owned an 1100 or 1150 you may try to comfort yourself with those thoughts. I've owned BMW's only since 1988 and I couldn't even get my eyes to focus on an 1100 or 1150 any time I was in the shop. I'm sure these are both excellent bikes, but the visual cues did not catch my eye. The 1200 on the other hand, love at first sight. Had to have one. Got one in the garage.
See you on the road--

I like it except for the oil cooler placement and instrument pod, don't care much for the headlight and blinker setup either.

Thought the same about the R1150R instrument pod when it came out but, like most of what BMW designs, it kinda grows on me.

while i love my 50R - i think the new 1200r, is a very pretty piece of kit.
Sat on one yesterday - and the first thing i noticed was how small it was compared to my 50R.

I called it ugly, I called it too expensive, I rode it, I traded the 1150 for it. What ever you do, if you love your 1150, don't even think of test riding the 1200 or you'll buy one too.

The R12R is gorgeous! If you want ugly, look at the R1200GSA ! Or any Harley except maybe the V-rod series !

the V-rod is the ugliest bike made, looks like something wadded up and hammered out (insert throw-up incon here).
