I guess I need sort sort of brackets to hold paniers and then the panniers themselves. Do any of you have such a setup and, if so, able to point me at the correct products>
I have the same set up.
What I see from your pic, you have and old version of the GIVE mount #641FZ
Regular panniers will be attached to the 2 bolts in the back and one bolt in the front. It is just a normal set up. Each side of the panniers have 3 bolts.
I like old GIVI mount 641FZ much better than the new one. You can move the top case back if you need to and use BMW plate to fill the gap.
Good luck.
Is it possible to move that mounting rack forward to allow the topcase to sit over the plate where the pillion sits? No passenger ever uses that space and I would like a back rest.
I have a Givi E52 topbox on my ride, but stuck with the BMW panniers and rails. Doesn't look out of place to me, but then not everyone may share that opinion. And of course, you may already have bought your Givis or simply prefer the size/look/price or whatever.
No I haven't bought anything yet. I'm really after some advice now that you can see (from my picture taken this morning) exactly what I have and the type of mounting I have.
You could use the system cases and paint the whole set to match your bike. I painted my city lids and standard lids and I think the are the best value. The givi panniers have been said not to be very fall resistant. Here is my solution. When I get the Givi top case it will get the same treatment.
I'm sure I have a couple of decent pics of my bike showing the BMW/Givi setup. When I get home from work tonight I'll post one up so you can see what it looks like.
Offhand I don't know how much the BMW pannier rails cost since mine came fitted on the bike already. My other concern would be that Givi sidecases would just look somewhat out of place on the Roadster. The BMW ones do hold less than the Givis we have on my other half's Honda, but then they look more integrated with the bike and combined with the E52, I don't really feel too short of space...
This is now my bike was initially set up, how ever, I had a older E45 top case, that sat too far forward and made the pillion uncomfortable. So I sold it and brought the BMW rack.
And recently I have fitted an Exhaust Lowering Kit and now have a pair of full size system cases!
Okay, here's a pic of my yellow monster with the BMW system cases, and Givi E52 topbox:
I have the newer Givi mounting frame, which actually *requires* the BMW pannier rails to be fitted. Looking at your photo, I'm not entirely sure if the BMW rails would fit in addition to the Givi frame. I *think* they would, but I can't be sure.
mcollect wrote:Aghogg Can you mount the rack to allow it to sit over the pillion? Then it would be my backrest also.
Not easily, I don't think. The rack attaches to the rear subframe, as well as the top of the BMW pannier rails for support.
As someone else mentioned before (perhaps on a different thread, I know I read it recently) - wouldn't that make it a bit difficult to swing your leg over the bike??
